Picture Credit: Salem's Ghosts   Salem's Ghosts - Sacrifice Release Date: June 18, 2021 Length: 02:40 Genre: Horror Punk Origin: Los Angeles , CA , USA Horror Punk is not dead. Yes, sometimes it smells a little musty. And yet, Michale Graves  is trying really hard to hammer nail after nail into the coffin of th genre. But neither of those things will kill Horror Punk, "denn die Todten reiten schnell" (German: "Because the Dead ride fast"; Gottfried August Bürger ). Thus, be introduced to L.A.'s Vampyro , Wolfgang  and Tony , also known as Salem's Ghosts. The trio is apparently working on a new album called "Blood Magic" which will appear on Vampyro Records . So, let's listen to the ex ante single "Sacrifice". Salem's Ghosts play Horror Punk without being the umpteenth Rezurex-/Samhain-/Misfits-rehash. Sort-of metallic and defined by an atmosphere that tastes like a cold steel blade, the trio spreads their spooky narrative....

Interview: Dead United

Picture Credit: Dead United Das Warten hat ein Ende! Würzburg's Death Rock und Horror Punk Band Dead United hat aus der Gruft erhoben und ihr neues Album "Fiend Nö. 1" veröffentlicht (VÖ: 09. April 2021, LP/CD/Digital,  Wolverine Records ).

EP Review: The Shrieks - Killer's Kiss (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: The Shrieks The Shrieks - Killer's Kiss Release Date: December 15, 2020 Label: selfrelease / Manolito Music Format: Vinyl / Digital Length: 10:33 Genre: Psychobilly / Punk Rock Origin: Helsinki , Finland The Shrieks? The Glam Rockers from New York City ? Not today! "Killer's Kiss" is the newest EP by Helsinki's Psychobilly and Horror Punk quartet The Shrieks. Half a decade after the release of their album "Get over here", the wild band from Finland is back with four killer tracks. Super fast and driving drums beats interlock with a dominant upright bass and shake your whole body. The guitars add to these gorgeous dynamics with little distortion by crazily high motion and create a highly exciting mix of 77 Punk and Psychobilly. And on top there are the powerful vocals that are almost always supported by the whole band's backing voices. That's where The Shrieks show they are not only four musicians, but they work as a band. The res...

EP Review: Billy Barfly - Horror Stories (2020)

Image
Billy Barfly - Horror Stories Release Date: October 02, 2020 Label: KBH Records Format: CD / Digital Length: 24:07 Genre: Horror Punk Origin: Germany Well, Halloween is over. But it is most likely to come back, right? Also, this review fits quite well after yesterday's post about Italian Horror Doom release by Bretus . Furthermore, I listened to the newest podcast by Movie Punx on Horror Movies . For those of you who understand German, it is worth listening to what these two lads have to say. And speakin of German language, the lyrics on Billy Barflies newest EP "Horror Stories" are in German, too. Horror Punk with German lyrics might be rather rare as far as I know. Billy Barfly is a one-person army from Germany. On seven tracks he plays melodic but raw Punk Rock with creepy content. The rhythm and the musical themes are influenced by Hillbilly and Rockabilly. Thus, a beautiful eerie atmosphere is created. And the best part about it, "Horror Stories" does not...

Album Review: Left Hand Black - Left Hand Black (2020)

Image
During my research on Left Hand Black I first found a Danzig/Misfits Tribute band from Ohio and I was like "oooh nooooo, please!". Fortunately, it turned out I was wrong. Instead, I'm reviewing the Swedish band Left Hand Black. The quartet from Gothenburg has formed from the ashes of The Dead Next Door and dedicated themselves to Horror Punk . Johan , Jonathan , Hand  and  Anton , also known as Left Hand Black will release their selftitled debut album at the end of March 2020 as CD, LP and digital copy via Wolverine Records . The release contains less than half an hour divided into 13 tracks. Of course. Music-wise a fast and raw version of Punk'n'Roll or Punkabilly is presented - typical Horror Punk one could say. Luckily, Left Hand Black add a lot of Trallpunk to their music which makes it a lot more interesting. The first album by Left Hand Black sounds a bit as if Michale Graves had met Asta Kask at a funeral, mixed their beer with bat blood and vodk...
