Four years after the release of their selftitled debut, Finland's Horte are back with their new longplayer "Maa Antaa Yön Vaientaa". The Finnish title can be translated to "The Earth lets the Night silence" and thus speaks volumes about the deep and melancholic soundscapes that are contained on the album. The seven tracks also have titles in Finnish language, and a brief look at the songlist reveals that Horte are continuing the narrative of their debut release. The track 'Konttaa, ne konttaa' from 2017 album "Horte" receives a second part on the new release.

"Maa Antaa Yön Vaientaa" is an album to get lost in. And it furthermore is an album in one piece. The Finnish quartet presents deep, dark, and cold soundscapes full of melancholy, sonic reverie, and passion. The experimental sound merges dreamy psychedelia, rough Post Rock atmosphere, and glitchy Shoegaze to a wholesome oeuvre. Thus, "Maa Antaa Yön Vaientaa" feels like wandering through a lucid dream alongside frozen rivers, dusky skies, and forsaken horizons. The song 'Kun Joki Haihtuu' ('When the River evaporates') - probably my favourite on the album - perfectly stands for the versatile soundscape of the album.
