What is there to be expected after the smoke clears? Silent void? Rubble and debris? Or maybe edificiation? Well, probably this review will not provide us with an answer. But nevertheless, the debut album by London's After Smoke Clears is called "Edification" and thus let us be hopeful and enjoy some brachial sound.

My first impression of the album is a very positive surprise. Reason is, there is one thing I often miss in Modern Metal releases. Groove.
It appears to me that Modern Metal bands often put a lot of effort in creating dystopian soundscapes and finding the right relation between Industrial and Hardcore. But fortunately that is not the case with After Smoke Clears. The quartet from England does not forget to groove. They even groove a lot. Huge grooves, I would say.

"Edification" is a massive wall of sound pushing forward like an army of giant robots. And those mechs are heavily armed. Hence, the impression of what to expect after the smoke of war clears is not visible yet. The band convinces with massive destructive energy. If the battle of humankind against artifical intelligence had a soundtrack, this would be it.

Huge blows of sheer force and chequered rhythms make "Edification" very interesting to listen to. The sound is brutal but intelligent. After Smoke Clears have created a sledgehammer of Groove and Modern Metal.
