The quintet from Athens, Greece presents their third full-length publication "Southern Lights" - a forty-minute psychedelic kraut trip to the deepest and most colourful corners of space. As you will know, a space vessel is always as good as its crew. And, in this case, the crew is doing a job and a half to make this interstellar journey and unforgettable experience. In the engine room, there is drummer Dimitris Doumouliakas who accelerates the ship with his heavy and krauty motion. Alex Bolpasis on the bass is using warm and sonorous sounds to create perfect commnication between the bridge and the engine room. On that bridge, there is navigator Vangelis Mitsis on the keys who makes the vessel move through time and space. On the two command centres, there are guitarists George Nikas and Stefanos Mitsis takin care that no rock, meteor or comet endangers the ship's hull. Their sharp projectiles are precise and fatal to everything that could halt or slow down the journey.
"Southern Lights" is a mind-expanding trip from the shores of a mediterranean coast towards corners of the universe where our conceptions of time and space do not apply any longer. Holy Monitor make us travel through dimensions with ease. This is boiling hot recommendation for fans of interstellar experiences, such as those by Valencia's Here the Captain speaking, the Captain is dead, and actually there is something on that album reminding me the music by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
