Breaths - Lined in Silver
Release Date: March 26, 2021
Label: Trepanation Recordings
Format: CD / MC / Digital
Length: 60:18
Genre: Post Rock / Post Metal
Origin: Richmond (Virginia), USA

The album on hand is the debut by Virginia's Doomgazer Jason Roberts, also known as Breaths - not to be confused with Oregon's Stoner Doom band Breath!
Breaths provide us with almost exactly one hour of atmospheric and intense music that can be located somewhere between Post Rock, Post Hardcore, Post Metal, Shoegaze, Doom Metal, and even some Black Metal. Quite an interesting mix and definitely a great recipe for music that is brachial, soulful, and atmospherically cold at the same time.

Like fog on a cold winter morning, the atmospheric soundscapes shimmer through the air, as they are joined by heavy Doom Metal riffs. The brutal intensity of the motifs makes a spring on this foundation like waves of a storm surge and hence creates this intense mixture of Doomgaze and Post Rock on the one hand, and brachial Post and Doom Metal on the other. And then there are the lyrics which add another set of influences and thereby complete the opulent sonic experience. Clean vocals, harsh shouts and Black Metal-like screams utter mournful, self-empowering and angry contents.

"Lined in Silver" feels like watching an impressive spectacle of nature without knowing if the shelter your are observing it from is safe or not. The album is exciting, thrilling, and gorgeously gloomy.
