EP Review: Vile Crone - Apostle (2020)
The story of Vile Crone begins with illustrator and graphic designer Tom G from Adelaide , Australia experimenting with his broken guitar. While playing, strumming, recording, looping, sampling and programming at some point the one-person project Vile Crone was born. And finally, on January 5, 2020, the first release "Apostle" was published. The five-track EP can be downloaded on Bandcamp or streamed on Spotify . The sound Vile Crone present on their EP is a raw and somewhat melodic melange of Black Metal and Doom Metal . Rough high-speed riffing meets a halting, gloomy, dark atmosphere and is decorated with symphonic synthie leads from time to time. Tom G narrates, sings, growls and screams his intense vocals above this unholy soundscape. In some parts the screeches are a little unpleasant to my ears as they remind me of Cradle of Filth or Macabre too much. Nevertheless, Vile Crone has delivered an intense and strong EP here.
