Brew Berrymore - Have a Beer in Stratosphere Release Date: October 30, 2020 Label: selfrelease Format: CD / Digital Length: 36:17 Genre: Future Rock / Alpaca Rock Origin: Regensburg , Germany "Have a Beer in Stratosphere"? Sounds like an invitation to a tasty can of Space Beer. I'm definitely interested! The CD on hand is the first longplayer by Brew Berrymore from Upper Palatinate in Bavaria. The quintet calls their style Future Rock or Alpaca Rock which might need some further definition, but that's what I'm here for. But first of all, I am very excited because alpacas are one of my favourite animals. Also, I'm really keen on drinking that Space Beer! The common terms that fit best for the music on "Have a Beer in Stratosphere" are Indie Rock and Alternative. With a hammond organ, synthesizers, guitar, bass, and drums, Brew Berrymore create a futuristic and independet sound. The effects on the instruments resemble Science Fiction films about leade

Album Review: Hierarchy - Hierarchy (2021)

Image
Picture Credit: Hierarchy Hierarchy - Hierarchy Release Date: January 01, 2021 Label: selfrelease Format: Digital Length: 54:19 Genre: Blackened Death Metal Origin: New York , USA Originally founded in 2002, New York's Hierarchy has gone through some changes. The contemporary line-up of the band is Vernon Boward III  aka   Lucithor  (guitar, bass, drum programming, backing vocals) and Michael Goguey Jr  aka Tabotan  (lyrics, guitar). As a duo, Hierarchy are beginning the new year with ther first proper longplayer which contains almost one hour of intense Blackened Death Metal. Apart from some mid-tempo excoursions, Hierarchy go full throttle on their instruments. The brachial riffs resemble the sounds of heavy war machinery and their turrets. Hierarchy are definitely not planning to take prisoners here. Each of the thirteen tracks on the album is a raw jamboree for the headbangers. Yet, the song structures are far from being plump or simple. Each track contains high versatility ent

Album Review: Silenced Minstrel - Volume 5 (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Silenced Minstrel Silenced Minstrel - Volume 5 Release Date: October 31, 2020 Label: selfrelease Format: Digital Length: 50:07 Genre: Black Metal Origin: Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia Silenced Minstrel is the one-person army consisting of Kuala Lumpur's Saiful Nizam Shukor . The artist from Malaysia founded the band in 2016 and has since then released album after album. As you might have assumed, this is the fifth album by Silenced Minstrel on which the solo artist is digging through the burning depths of hell. On the surface this is pure and raw Black Metal. Riffs and rhythms rage forward like blizzards. Yet, the guitar sound is not the typical Immortal-like sound of bone-chilling cold, but resembles the blood-thirsty Bathory atmosphere instead. From time to time you can hear complex sound structures climbing up the raw Black Metal scaffoldings like on a circular staircase. Further influences are atmospheric pieces of Gothic Metal and Blackened Death Metal machine gun at

Picture Credit: Linda Rum Linda Rum - Ten Feet Tall I Release Date: December 11, 2020 Label: selfrelease Format: Digital Length: 18:38 Genre: Indie Folk / Indie Pop Origin: Hamburg , Germany "Ten Feet Tall I" is the sophomore EP by Hamburg's Folk artists Linda Rum . The EP contains five tracks of calm, soothing and atmospheric music. The harmonic ambient is mostly accompanied by guitar, piano and organ. And the central feature is the soft but powerful voice by Linda Rum . Linda Rum  musicks various moods and airs on her EP. The song 'Whisper of the Sleeping Trees' is a beautiful calm tracks that resemble a soft breeze which gently moves the leaves of a tree. 'Mary' on the other hand is a very moving and dynamic track for the dancefloors. Linda Rum  presents herself as a strong, confident and soulful musician. The music on "Ten Feet Tall I" is ideal for comfortable evenings. I recommend this one to fans of Pano and Ami Lyons . Linda Rum Online: H

Album Review: Pivnoy Cowboy - Impossibilism (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Pivnoy Cowboy Pivnoy Cowboy - Impossibilism Release Date: October 27, 2020 Label: Geertruida Format: CD / Cassette / Digital Length: 27:51 Genre: Post Punk / Shoegaze Origin: Moscow , Russia In late 2019 Vitalii Zimin  founded his one-man band Pivnoy Cowboy. In the same month, the first EP " Полуночный боулинг " was released. Autumn 2020, the first album followed which is an eight-track collection of deep, dark and sweet sounds. Here is "Impossibilism". The music on "Impossibilism" is driven by a heavy melancholy. This mostly happens via dark Post Punk sounds and a certain impact by Shoegaze. But there is something else that adds massive melancholic vibrations to the 28 minutes on "Impossibilism". It is the influence of Soviet Rock, the gloomy and soulful heritage of bands like кино that makes this album so stunning. The images this music paints are both grey and colourful. Think of a lantern shining through a rainy or foggy dusk

Album Review: Detieti - Frogressive Punk (2018)

Image
Picture Credit: Detieti Layout: Maria Kodachigova Artwork: Han Detieti - Frogressive Punk Release Date: May 19, 2018 Label: [addicted label] Format: CD / Cassette / Digital Length: 47:50 Genre: Experimental / Fusion / Post Rock Origin: Moscow , Russia Releases from Moscow's [addicted label] have one thing in common. They are very hard to categorize. Therefore, the label has a certain similarity to Greek music community Polyscope , as a side note for those who enjoy experimental and boundary-breaking music. Detieti's "Frogressive Punk" is a perfect example for these introductory words. What do artists do when their music does not fit any genres? They create their own genre. Thus, Juice Oh Yeah play Klezmer Doom, and Detieti play Frogressive Punk. Listening to the first track 'Cocaintro' (video above; awesome title by the way) might give you a certain impression about what is happening here. Funk meets Jazz, slides into atmospheric and heavy Post Rock, joins

Album Review: Moura - Moura (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Moura Photo: Leo López Artwork: Hugo Santeiro Moura - Moura Release Date: April 01, 2020 Label: Spinda Records Format: Vinyl / CD / Cassette / Digital Length: 38:36 Genre: Psychedelic Folk / Progressive Folk Origin:  A Coruña , Spain A Coruña (or La Coruña in Castellano) is the capital of the autonomous region of Galicia which is situated in the very Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The town is home to Moura, a five-piece band which has released their first studio album via Spinda Records this year. Moura and their selftitled debut are a good example to show that progressive and psychedelic music are free from boundaries. Here, it is the imposant mixture of 70s-style Prog and Psych Prog with Galician Folk tunes. The latter is a genre that was completely new to me, but as an outsider, I would say that Galician Folk shows some similarities to Celtic Folk. Moura's album features a various representation of light-footed and harmonic Folk tunes. These melodic sounds

Album Review: Ayermaniana - El Reflejo (2019)

Image
Picture Credit: Ayermaniana Photo: Victoria de Rosa Artwork: Sol Bodean  and Alfredo Ignacio Ayermaniana - El Reflejo Release Date: January 07, 2019 Label: selfrelease Format: Digital Length: 37:10 Genre: Psychedelic Rock / Krautrock Origin: Buenos Aires , Argentina Ayermaniana were last featured here in the Discoveries of the Week . Their last release "E Reflejo" might not be super new. Actually, the album is almost two years old the days I'm beginning to review it. But it would be a crying shame not to talk about this hypnotizing release from Argentina. Ayermaniana means "Yesterday Morning" in Spanish and as you might have guessed yourselves, the album title "El Reflejo" means "The Refection". On their third longplayer, the quintet from Buenos Aires takes their audience on a mind-expanding journey through thick smoke and stunningly colourful images. It is their raw mix of Psychedelia and Krautrock with Prog that makes "El Reflejo"

Album Review: White Walls - Grandeur (2020)

Picture Credit: White Walls Artwork: Radu Damian White Walls - Grandeur Release Date: October 23, 2020 Label: selfrelease Format: CD / Digital Length: 54:01 Genre: Alternative Metal / Progressive Metalcore Origin:  Constanța , Romania According to the stats, MangoWave has a lot of readers from Romania. Isn't it strange that this is the first review of a Romanian band then? Anyways, let me introduce you to "Grandeur", the newest release by Constanța's White Walls. Better late than never, I guess. White Walls are a quartet from the shores of the Black sea in Eastern Romania. The band consists of  Theodor-Ștefan Scrioșteanu (drums, backing vocals),  Șerban-Ionuț Georgescu (bass, backing vocals),  Virgil Eugen Brudaru (vocals), and  Alexandru Eduard Dascălu (guitar). Together they play a very versatile and colourful mix of styles and genres. The sound on "Grandeur" combines the melancholic atmosphere of Alternative Metal with intense Metalcore breaks and colour
