Image
Picture Credit: Elvira Bira   Elvira Bira - Vispunk Release Date: August 25, 2021 Label: Grönpeppar Records Format: CD / Digital Length: 30:52 Genre: Folk Punk Origin: Sweden Mathilda Sundin  is a member of Swedish band Fuck Frankie. Actually, it is not easy finding them online since I found a band with the same name from Chile and... porn. But on the YouTube channel by Mathilda  (see links below), you will find some recordings. Anyways, this post is not about Fuck Frankie but about the acoustic Folk Punk project by Mathilda Sundin  - here is Elvira Bira. The term Folk Punk is often directly linked to Celtic Folk or Americana-influenced Punk Rock. But the term Folk Punk is a lot richer than these assumptions may make it appear. Elvira Bira's debut album "Vispunk" is a perfect example of a mix of Punk and folkloristic soundscapes apart from those common spheres. Mathilda , also known as Elvira Bira, creates stunning and dynamic sounds by merging Northern Folk with a s...

Picture Credit: option weg Artwork: Moni Hoffmann option weg - Mehr Bullen mehr Bomben für ein wirklich gutes Leben Release Date: September 07, 2020 Label: Elfenart Format: Vinyl / CD / Digital Length: 50:16 Genre: Deutschpunk / Folk Punk Origin: Berlin , Germany "Mehr Bullen mehr Bomben für ein wirklich gutes Leben" is German for "More Cops, more Bombs for a really good Life". By the title you might already conclude that this is about Punk Rock. But despite the sarcastic album title, option weg do not play Fun Punk. On the contrary! Even though the quartet from Berlin makes use of cynicism here and there, they have a released a highly political, antifascist, feminist and dead serious album. But let's have a closer look. This is the fourth album by option weg. The band consists of Anja  (drums and vocals), Moni  (bass, violin and vocals), Steffn  (guitar, bass and vocals), and Yok  (accordeon, drums and vocals). The quartet plays a refreshing mix of raw Deutsch...

Album Review: The Feelgood McLouds - Life on a Ferris Wheel (2020)

Image
Lupenreiner Celtic Punk möchte man sagen.

CD Review: Harry Gump - Four Chords Forever (2018)

Image
Ha...

CD Review: Los Bressackos - Goißa, Mofas, Brodwuschdkeck (2019)

Image
