Well, the cover artwork and the EP's titls "Depopulate" give us the first hints: this release is all about the pandemic and some of its consequences. Did I say 'Pandemic'? Now, as autumn is commencing there is a new release by James Fogarty  ( In the Woods... / Jaldaboath / Old Forest ). Ewigkeit's newest work is a five-track EP lasting exactly 23 minutes. On "23" Ewigkeit sounds a lot different that on recent works. The music is still very progressive but a bit less experimental. Also, the Black Metal theme have almost completely been abandoned on this EP. Instead, Fogarty  adds lots of elements from Doom Metal and Stoner Rock to the musical atmosphere on "23". Speaking of Doom Metal, the opening track 'Bring the Eschaton' (video above) speaks volumes. With this powerful track Ewigkeit sets the pace fot the EP: massive, heavy and nihilistic Prog Metal...

Together with Sven Rothe  (drums), Muld  (piano, keys), and ExRoyal  (vocals) the sophomore longplayer was recorded and recenty published via Death to Music . "Planet System" contains thirteen tracks of mostly mid-tempo Prog Metal and Prog Rock. But it wouldn't be Strange New Dawn if those were the only influences defining their music. When promoting their third album "The Repulsive Abomination" Mental Disaster said it would contain 100% brutality. I have made the maths, and before going into the review, I can assure you that the quartet from Kristiansand told us the truth. Brutal truth, I would even say. On their recent releases the Norwegian band has proven that they love imagery your priest would not approve of. Their humouristic blasphemy is once again displayed by brachial Death Metal mixed with highspeed Thrash Metal influences. For around 33 minutes Mental Disaster hack, slay, torch, dismember and eradicate everything that could be sacred. With "The Repulsive Abomination" the band has created a beautiful presentation of blood, gore, violence, blasphemy and doom. The musical concept on Mental Disaster's third album is simple but genius. Back in the year 2000, James Fogarty 's project Ewigkeit recorded their third album "Land of Fog". Two decades later the musician who is also know for his work with In the Woods... , Jaldaboath , and Old Forest is giving us the pleasure of a re-production of his powerful and versatile album. His "Land of Fog 20/20 Revision" features around 40 minutes of Black and Progressive Metal . Since early February 2020 the new release can be streamed on Spotify or purchased as a digital version. A physical copy will available in March in form of a digipack CD via Death to Music Productions . The CD will feature four tracks of the original demo from 2000 as well as an unreleased song. Thus, it is definitely worth investing some coins in the purchase of the haptic format of the third re-release by Ewigkeit. For a bit less than 25 minutes Drivdal shoots some heavy kick-ass and fuck-off Black Metal Punk towards your eardrums.
