On the two tracks 'Not Men, Not Women, Not Beasts' and 'Career Opportunities' they present some heavily raging and doomed Stoner Metal. Hoarse screaming accompanies the brutal soundscape that reminds of sludgy Doom à la Dopethrone. Dust Lord are spitting venom with a sound they call Party Doom. Four Tales of the...

Album Review: Bloodshot Buffalo - Becoming Absence (2021)

Picture Credit: Bloodshot Buffalo Bloodshot Buffalo - Becoming Absence Release Date: 05 March, 2021 Label: Fuzzy Cracklins / The Swamp Format: CD / Digital Length: 50:22 Genre: Psychedelic Doom Origin: Santa Rosa (California) , USA Bloodshot Buffalo is the solo project by Sheafer McOmber  whose eighth full-length album "Becoming Absence" was dropped via The Swamp Records today. McOmber  has recorded the drums, bass, guitars, vocals and plenty of hypnotizing effects on these nine tracks. The sound on "Becoming Absence" predominantly fits the gernes of Psychedelic Rock and Doom Metal. Nevertheless, Bloodshot Buffalo is maintaning a pretty high velocity that contradicts the sedative features of many Psychedelic Doom artists. This full-throttle Stoner Doom fits the imagery of motorbikes which McOmber  often uses in his music videos or cover artworks. I would hence call the music presented here steaming hot Psych Doom which tastes like burning rubber and plain cigarette...

Picture Credit: K.A.D.A.L K.A.D.A.L - Kadal Release Date: 05 March, 2021 Label: Fuzzy Cracklins / The Swamp Format: CD / Cassette / Digital Length: 29:30 Genre: Stoner Doom Origin: Yogyakarta , Indonesia "Kadal" means "lizard" and is the name of a band from Java that describes itself as Sabbath-worshipping doomed creatures. The quartet consists of guitarists Damianus Adam  and David Kusuma , drummer Lanno Joseph , and Steven Yoyada  on the bass. The latter might ring a bell since Steven  is also responsible for plenty of stunning psychedelic cover artworks. Kadal by K.A.D.A.L The EP on hand features two tracks, both of them around 15 minutes long. The music is defined by heavy and smoked-out Stoner Doom. Whenever one of the guitars absorbs itself from the scratchy foundation, sludgy leads create a heavy psychedelic atmosphere. The Sabbath is most certainly strong with K.A.D.A.L. The EP is definitely worth listening, despite the fact the burning wheels of Stoner, Slu...

Picture Credit: Bretus   Bretus - Bretus Release Date: December 12, 2010, Re-Issue: November 11, 2020 Label: Fuzzy Cracklins / The Swamp Records Format: CD / Digital Length: 26:15 Genre: Horror Doom Origin: Catanzaro , Italy Bretus' selftitled Mini CD was originally released in 2010. In 2014 actually, the first re-issue was produced. Now in 2020, we celebrate the tenteh anniversary of the Horror Doom debut from Italy. And it is another premiere, too. The re-release of "Bretus" is the first re-issue ever done by the label The Swamp Records. On five tracks Bretus play heavy Doom Metal driven by a sludgy psychedelic atmosphere. The second element defining the sound on this Mini CD is horror. You can hear in the opening track 'Sitting on the Grave' (video above). Bretus work with the tradition of bands like Samhain, The Other or Rezurex. Horror stories are the motor for both, the lyrics and the musical style. Doom Metal-wise, Bretus are rather traditional. Their soun...

Album Review: Froglord - Amphibian Ascending (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Froglord Artwork: Steven Yoyada Froglord - Amphibian Ascending Release Date: November 06, 2020 Label: Fuzzy Cracklins / The Swamp Records Format: CD / Digital Length: 47:28 Genre: Doom Metal / Sludge / Stoner Metal Origin: Bristol , England My first encounter with Bristol's Froglord was on the amazing YouTube channel of 666MrDoom . I was astonished by the bizarre mix of Sludge, Doom Metal and frog costumes. I am even happier that on this Bandcamp Day I can pesent their first full-length release "Amphibian Ascending" to you. On the surface, Froglord's first album is an eight-track work of pitch black Doom Metal, Stoner Metal  and Sludge. But once you dig into it, you will realize that "Amphibian Ascending" is way more than just another doomed and stoned CD. But let's start with the music. Heavy Doom Metalr riffs stomp forward like a two-pound bullfrog approaching its prey. The swampy Blues motifs create a gloomy Sludge atmosphere à la...

Vinyl lovers will have to wait until autumn when the 12'' version of the album will be distributed via Fuzzy Cracklins . Somewhere between motorcycles, skateboards and the Statue of Liberty Andre Deko  (drums), Fernando Menechelli  (bass) and Paolo Cassio  (guitar) founded Sonic Taboo in 2018. Although this combination sounds likely to be the offspring of either kick-ass Punk Rock or Blues-laden Rock'n...

Photo Credit: Phantom Limb / Puresonic Outcasts Puresonic Outcasts - Reflections on this present Condition Release: February 29, 2020 Label: Fuzzy Cracklins Format: CD/Digital Length: 26:14 Genre: Stoner Rock / Doom Metal Origin: Holywood, Northern Ireland Low tunes, heavily stomping beats, occult atmosphere and high-pitched guitar licks propelling above the dark soundscape. Hell yes, it's time for Stoner Doom! Puresonic Outcasts from the UK have released their first EP "Reflections on this present Condition" earlier this year. On five tracks the quartet presents their perception of the reality that surrounds us. Starting off, their EP has a very typical Doom Metal aura containing fuzzy riffing on halting beats. Once you think you know what to expect from the EP, Puresonic Outcasts go pedal on the metal and surprise their listeners with straightforwardly rolling Stoner Rock. Yet, the air is filled with smoke and rattling sounds. Like a tank r...

Lunar Swamp from Catanzaro in Calabria, Italy have recently came out with their first release "UnderMudBlues", a five-track Mini-CD available on Californian label Fuzzly Cracklins. As you might get from both band name and album title, this is all about heavy doom-ridden Swamp Blues. Lunar Swamp themselves call their style Shamanic Doom Blues - a well-fitting description of the music displayed on their debut. The five tracks on "UnderMudBlues" are defined by heavy psychedelic Blues motifs, an omnipresent Fuzz effect and the occult atmosphere of Doom Metal. Like stompig through oozy terrain the trio ponderously moves forward. Drummer S.M. Ghoul  is responsible for the steady and intense motion in p...
