Image
Picture Credit: Parasite / Inti Records   Parasite - Metal Punk Massacre Release Date: July 02, 2021 Label: Inti Records Format: Cassette / Digital Length: 24:03 Genre: Crust / D-Beat Origin: Satocho , Japan In April 2011, Naggy  (guitar), Masaki  (vocals), Yosuke  (bass), and Utsu-Ken  (drums) from Satocho released the EP "Metal Punk Massacre". After previously publishing two demos, a split, some singles, and a compilation, this can be regarded as Parasite's proper debut release. Ten years later, Parasite are still active. In the meantime, they have released another EP, a live album, several splits, and one full-length album called "Zankyo 残響". Nevertheless, the EP "Metal Punk Massacre" is widely regarded to be a legendary release, and hence for its tenth anniversary, it receives a re-issue via Peruvian label Inti Records. Side note, in the year 2020, Beijing-based label Thrashing Cult Records has also published a re-issue of the EP. Metal Punk Mass...

Album Review: 偏執症者 (Paranoid) - Cursed (2021)

Image
Picture Credit: 偏執症者 (Paranoid) Artwork: Danu Bharata   偏執症者 (Paranoid) - Cursed Release Date: May  07, 2021 Label: Paranoid Northern Discs Format: Digital Length: 36:39 Genre: D-Beat Origin: Frösön , Sweden Less than eight months after the release of their previous smashing album " Out Raising Hell ", Frösön's 偏執症者 (Paranoid) are back with "Cursed". The Swedish band with a faible for Japanese culture and arts shoots full salvos and spits venom on their ten new tracks - each of them with a Japanese title an English lyrics. If you know 偏執症者 (Paranoid), you might already have some expectations of what"Cursed" might sound like - and you will not be disappointed. 偏執症者 (Paranoid) are not considering about taking prisoners as their brachial mix of D-Beat and Thrash Metal Punk rages like a horde of berserkers. The intro '前兆 (Zenchou)' (Japanese: 'Omen') and intermission '予感 (Yokan)' ('Premonition') are the only calm three minut...

Album Review: Overcharge - Metalpunx (Edizione Speziale) (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Overcharge Artwork: Devil's Reject Art   Overcharge - Metalpunx (Edizione Speziale) Release Date: November 10, 2020 Label: Planet K Records Format: CD / Digital Length: 50:22 Genre: Metal Punk / D-Beat / Rock'n'Roll Origin: Varese , Italy Overcharge make it pretty obvious what the listeners should expect from their newest release. Firstly, their name is most likely a reference to D-Beat legend Discharge. And secondly, the album title "Metalpunx" leaves no doubt about the music presented here. Overcharge are a trio from Varese (or Varés, in Lombardian). The best way to start this review is by giving three quotes from the band: 1 "Louder than words - speed is the law", 2 "D.I.Y. or die!", 3 "Hate fascism! Drink hard! Love Rock'n'Roll!". Fuck yes, this is a fully armed warmachine of D-Beat, Rock'n'Roll, Punk and Metal. Overcharge's sound seemlessly draws on to the rusty age of British D-Beat and Swed...

Album Review: 偏執症者 (Paranoid) - Out Raising Hell (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: 偏執症者 (Paranoid) Artwork: Anton Antanasov   偏執症者 (Paranoid) - Out Raising Hell Release: September 25, 2020 Label:  D-Takt & Råpunk / Konton Crasher Format: Vinyl / Digital Length: 40:30 Genre: D-Beat / Thrash Metal Punk Origin: Frösön , Sweden Even though the Japanese name 偏執症者 could lead to other assumptions, we're listening to a band from Sweden today. Henrik Låsgårdh  (vocals/guitars), Joakim Staaf-Sylsjö  (bass/vocals) and Emil Bergslid  (drums) are presenting their third full-length album within five years. And as you might guess from looking at Anton Atanosov 's cover artwork, it is about to get raw and heavy. On ten tracks 偏執症者 play a powerful and brutal mix of D-Beat and Thrash Metal. Each song is defined by high-speed riffing and brachial insanity. Since all the titles are in Japanese, I will give you a little help here: 1. 晦冥勢力 (Dark Forces) 2. 機械仕掛けの殺戮者 (Mechanical Murderer) 3. まだ見ぬユートピア (Utopia not yet seen) 4. 光の館...

Album Review: Church of the Dead - Church of the Dead (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Church of the Dead Church of the Dead - Church of the Dead Release: July 31, 2020 Label: selfrelease Format: CD / Digital Length: 32:32 Genre: Blackened Death Metal / D-Beat Origin: Helsinki , Finland Apparently, Helsinki's Church of the Dead have so far only released several EPs and Singles in their eight years of existence. But now, it is finally time for the selftitled debut album. Church of the Dead are Tommi Makkonen  (drums), Antti Poutanen  (bass), Kride Lahti  (guitar), and Jussi Salminen  (vocals). Together they recorded eight tracks for everyone who is uncomfortable with the hot weather of this summer as much as I am. The music on Church of the Dead's brings together the unholy trinity of brutal music. Black Metal atmosphere as cold as the fimbul winter influences gory Death Metal and merges with brachially thrashing D-Beat. The sound is raw but well defined and the songs show some nice variety. My personal favourite is the horror sc...

LP Review: Martyrdöd - Hexhammaren (2019)

Image
Holy Satan! What great news, Martyrdöd are back! I have missed the crusty Black Metal Punks for quite some time but now finally I can penetrate my eardrums with their newest twelve-track-disc "Hexhammaren". Martyrdöd have recorded around forty minutes of new pitch black, crusty Punk Rock songs. The lyrics are part Swedish and part English, the tempo is mostly up, and the singer's raucous voice instantly gives me goosebumps. Compared to older LPs by Martyrdöd "Hexhammaren" sounds a bit cleaner. But the dirty Crust Punk attitude is still present on their new disc. It may here and there been substituted by a stronger Heavy oder Thrash Metal impact on their songwriting. Nevertheless Martyrdöd have not unlearned to kick ass at all. The D-Beat galopps over the record like the four horsemen, the bass and the two guitars create a beautiful crusty and metallic soundscape of disharmony, and above all there's that hoarsy voice grinding through the rills of the reco...
