Further, "Riders in the Stardust Gold" marks another milestone in the band's history since it is their first release on Ben Harper 's label Mad Bunny Records. "Riders in the Stardust Gold" is a mesmerizing sonic journey through a psychedelic kaleidoscope of heat, boppy colours, fuzzy images, and intense dreams. It is the idiosyncratic style that makes The Cush's sixth longplayer s...

Picture Credit: Grey Mouse   Grey Mouse - A Moment of Weakness Release Date: May 07, 2021 Label: [addicted label] Format: CD / Digital Length: 38:36 Genre: Psychedelic Rock / Alternative Rock Origin: Moscow , Russia A new release by Moscow's [addicted label] always makes me very happy. Hence, today is a good since Grey Mouse are releasing their fifth full-length album "A Moment of Weakness". The band was originally formed in the late 90s by Alexey Chunikhin  and has since then gone through plenty of changes in their line-up, and has steadily experimented with different styles of psychedelic and melancholic music. Their newest work can be located in the realms of Psychedelic Folk, Alternative Rock, Alt Country, and the deeply stoic sounds of Soviet Rock. A Moment of Weakness by Grey Mouse "A Moment of Weakness" - what a powerful name for an album that is defined by selfreflecting and considerate soundscapes. The sonic construct resembles a person looking back o...

Album Review: Hairetis Harper - Draft (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Hairetis Harper Hairetis Harper - Draft Release Date: December 07, 2020 Label: Same Difference Music Format: Vinyl / Digital Length: 49:38 Genre: Folk Rock / Experimental Origin: Crete , Greece / London , England The album "Draft" is a collaboration of London's harpist Maria-Christina Harper  and Cretan lute player Yiagos Hairetis . Together those two exceptional musicians are Hairetis Harper. And the word exceptional fits this album very well. "Draft" does willingly break with genres or styles - it just forms a new one. The terms that apply to the seven tracks are Progressive Folk, Avantgarde, Experimental Folk or Psychedelic Ambient. Listening to "Draft" feels like a romantic journey through a colourful forest, alongside creeks and a glade where wild animals peacefully browse while the sunlight is creating the most beautiful game of colour and reflections. You might as well discover elves or fairies, but that is up to your imaginati...

Album Review: Moura - Moura (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Moura Photo: Leo López Artwork: Hugo Santeiro Moura - Moura Release Date: April 01, 2020 Label: Spinda Records Format: Vinyl / CD / Cassette / Digital Length: 38:36 Genre: Psychedelic Folk / Progressive Folk Origin:  A Coruña , Spain A Coruña (or La Coruña in Castellano) is the capital of the autonomous region of Galicia which is situated in the very Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. The town is home to Moura, a five-piece band which has released their first studio album via Spinda Records this year. Moura and their selftitled debut are a good example to show that progressive and psychedelic music are free from boundaries. Here, it is the imposant mixture of 70s-style Prog and Psych Prog with Galician Folk tunes. The latter is a genre that was completely new to me, but as an outsider, I would say that Galician Folk shows some similarities to Celtic Folk. Moura's album features a various representation of light-footed and harmonic Folk tunes. These melod...

Parallel to that, Antmen  has worked on his own music for quite some time. As other things often took a higher priority, the completion of "Eşik Altı" (Turkish: "Under Threshold") got delayed several times. Now in late 2020 we can finally listen to the seven psychedelic improvisations by Alper Antmen  who played cura, e-bow, microtonal electric guitar, sitar, harmonica, sipsi, rainstick, tibetan bell, bendir, maracas and synthies on "Eşik Altı". Guest musicians are Hasan Orak Ekinci who contributed with talking drum on 'Penç' and 'Irmak', and Volkan İn...
