News: Tenderhooks - Travelling Underground (2021)

Image
Picture Credit: Tenderhooks Tenderhooks - Travelling Underground Release Date: March 26, 2021 Length: 03:30 Genre: Rock'n'Roll / Blues Rock Origin: Brighton , England Brighton's Tenderhooks invite us on a very special sonic journey. As the song's title already tells us, we are encountering the space beneath the surface of our planet. "Travelling Underground" does not only show us the physical spheres of the tunnel networks, but predominantly the lowest of human behaviour towards our environment. Exploitation of nature for the sake ressources and profit are depicted by the terrible state Mother Earth is in due to us. Hence, the song mirrors humanity's cruel treatment of the only inhabitable planet known to ourselves. Travelling Underground by Tenderhooks It is almost cynical how boppy, lightfooted and cheery the song is, music-wise. Tenderhooks provide us with a banging and massively rolling Blues Rock anthem. Stunning arrangements, similar to Kamala '...

Album Review: Automatism - Immersion (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Automatism  Automatism - Immersion Release: October 09, 2020 Label: Tonzonen Records Format: Vinyl / CD / Digital Length: 47:00 Genre: Psychedelic Krautjazz / Post Rock Origin: Stockholm , Sweden Earlier this year, I reviewed the sophomore longplayer by Stockholm's finest quartet Automatism " Into the Sea ". Now Automatism have already released their third album "Immersion" and it seems like they are really happy releasing their music via the amazing Krefeld-based label Tonzonen Records . "Immersion" features six new tracks on which the band proves that are not tired a bit. Instead, they constantly develop their unique style and have thus created an impressive work of progressive music. The sharp-dressed trio from the North are Jonas Yrlid  (drums), Mikael Tuominen  (bass), Gustav Nygren  (guitar) and Hans Hjelm  (guitar). On "Immersion" they receive additive support by Jakob Sjöholm  who plays a scratchy guitar on the final ...

Album Review: Instant Boner - Highplace Phenomenon (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Instant Boner Instant Boner - Highplace Phenomenon Release: September 25, 2020 Label: selfrelease Format: Digital Length: 57:45 Genre: Psychedelic Rock / Progressive Rock Origin: Thessaloniki , Greece Thessaloniki's Instant Boner have been through some rush periods in the first years of their existence. The years 2013-18 were defined by many changes in the line up and even a short rest. When vocalist Marianthi Goula  joined the band in 2018, a new dawn appeared be on the rise. Now, it's later 2020 and Instant Boner have released their first full-length album "Highplace Phenomenon". The six-piece indulges our eardrums with 70s inspired Psychedelic Prog Rock. Smooth sound architecture is being built up with grat extravagance and plenty of sharp edges. The elegant structure of the music does indeed not contradict to Instant Boner adding heavy Stoner Rock attacks. Outstanding on the other hand, is Orentis Exintaris ' saxophone . The dominant wind in...

LP Review: Automatism - Into the Sea (2019)

Image
My first encounter with Stockholm-based band was at last year's Tonzonen Labelnight . The Swedish quartet were the last band playing at that event after Nazca Space Fox , Pavallion , and The Spacelords . By playing their easy-going, sophisticated and heavily jamming Psychedelic Kraut Jazz Automatism proved that they absolutely fit the Tonzonen label. Also, I felt like the band members' faces looked familiar to me. Apparently they did, as Automatism consists of musicians playing with Kungens Män , New Rose , and Fanatism . Automatism's fourth release "Into the Sea" was recorded at Svartsjölandet Studio and released via Tonzonen Records in autumn 2019. The modest but gorgeous cover artwork done by drummer Jonas Yrlid  contains a shiny record with four tracks and a playtime of around 40 minutes. The A-Side starts off smoothly with jazzy tunes on 'Propeller Propulsion' which easily merges into second track 'Journey to Satchidananda' - a 13-minute...
