First of all, and because it cannot be said often enough: нет войны | ні війні | No War How to help the people in Ukraine ______________________________________________________ Picture Credit: Mark Liedtke Buridan's Bridge - Diafora Release Date: March 25, 2022 Label: selfrelease Format: Digital Duration: 14:21 Genre: Alternative Rock / Stoner Rock Origin: Hamburg , Germany The serpent takes another bite at its tail as Buridan's Bridge present their reinvention of classic alternative rock straight from 2010. Latest three track EP by the German act is entitled Diafora, which means “different” in Greek. This fits well - we haven’t heard something like that in a while. What comes to mind when Nocturnal starts playing? Well, it’s the best band in the whole fucking world which is of course The Alkaline Trio. Jokes aside, Buridan's Bridge manages to connect all the best value points of dramatic punk (thanks to cello and choirs), emo and alt rock, covering the territories conque...

Album Review: Gristmill - Heavy Everything (2021)

Image
Picture Credit: Patrick James Dean   Gristmill - Heavy Everything Release Date: July 16, 2021 Label: selfrelease Format: Digital Length: 48:36 Genre: Stoner Rock / Stoner Metal Origin: Neptune City , NJ , USA Neptune City, New Jersey is the birthplace of Jack Nicholson  and Jennifer Tisdale . More important, the small town in Monmouth County is home to Gristmill, a band that creates a remorselessly heavy sound. It is therefore no understatement that Gristmill have named their debut album "Heavy Everything". So if you love your Rock heavy, your Metal heavy, if you love to smoke heavily and to party heavily, I heavily recommend you to turn up the volume now. Heavy Everything by Gristmill Gristmill play the sound that makes you cross your arms and heavily nod your head while putting on a serious look to express your joy. Headbanging or stomping your feet is optional. Indeed, this is Hardcore-driven heavyweight-Stoner Rock and Metal for fans of bands such as 16 . Sedate riffs pl...

EP Review: Swarm of Spheres - Brother, Take Five (2021)

Image
Picture Credit: Swarm of Spheres   Swarm of Spheres - Brother, Take Five Release Date: October 15, 2021 Label: No Why Records Format: Vinyl / Digital Length: 23:07 Genre: Sludge / Stoner Rock Origin: Ottawa , Ontario , Canada By only looking at the cover artwork and the title, one might assume that "Brother, Take Five" could be a Blues or Jazz EP (or at least, I did). But you know what they say about the books and judging them by their covers. Swarm of Spheres actually are pretty far away from Blues and Jazz music-wise. Their latest EP was recorded at Boxcar Sound Recording in June 2019, and it contains six tracks that present that darkest side of fuzz-driven sounds. "Brother, Take Five" is a sonic confrontation with PTSD, anxiety, and rage. This EP can be mentioned alongside brutal releases such as Dystopia's "Human = Garbage" or Eyehategod's "Taken as needed for Pain". Swarm of Spheres create a sound that feels like wandering through ...

Today is the day, we can finally all listen to the debut EP "Sunbound" by Dresden's Poliverso. The band line-up was then completed as Eduardo Mota  (drums, percussions) and Scott McLean  (keys) joined. As a guest musician, Jeremias Novanhana  plays the trombone on the opening track 'El Quinto Sol'. Sunbound by Poliverso Poliverso combine the wise foresight of Progressive Rock with sensual Blues Rock movements and a hea...

The seven-track album is a powerful self-representation of the Canadian band formed in 2018. On 45 minutes Slowpoke provide us with a heavy "Here we are now, deal with it". The music can predominantly be categorized under the term Stoner Punk. Digging deeper, you could call it a non-compromise ...
