From the very beginning Humaniac starts unrelenting tech-death assault, based on the ...

This time we are having a whole LP of Heroes of Might and Magic soundtracks, reimagined and revisited - still capturing the bands original creative taste and paying respect to the videogame that influenced it in many ways. The album includes cover versions of the classic themes from the second and third parts of the legendary turn based strategy - and it sure is some dark magic. The release works as an...

And her weapon of choice in the fight with social injustice is dramatic pop music. What might at first seem as your typical MTV American dream band has actually outgrown that demanding status, finding a firmer foothold in the area of social activism and genuine 90’s sound. As years passed, CHLSYs songwriting skill and video production quality both improved noticeably. Behind the songs stands the mastermind of Chelsea Gilliland, the young prodigy who does both singing and playing the guita...

The synergy of the band is almost tangible, and captures the moment when two artists complete each others creative output perfec...

To this day this two-piece UK metal outfit has released two exquisite covers for Hammerfall’s “The Dragon Lies Bleeding” and Iced Earth’s “Dark Saga” (duh). But today we are going to highlight the band’s latest instalment entitled “The Cauldron Born”. This is a classic 5 and minute heavy metal epic, raised on the steady diet of Blind Guardian and Savatage but multiplied b...

Single Review: Frank Gradeen - Dracula Will Strike Tonight (2022) - Guest Feature by Ilya Yclept

Send a request to rmangowave@gmail.com Picture Credit: Frank Gradeen Frank Gradeen - Dracula Will Strike Tonight Release Date: March 18, 2022 Duration: 02:56 Genre: Heavy Metal / Hard Rock Origin: Sweden Frank Gradeen unleashed his new track 'Dracula Will Strike Tonight' on us - and it will grab you by the hoohas. By the time you catch the glimpse of Frank it's already too late. Danzig-like ripped barbarian with long curly hair produces the music that sounds exactly like the author looks. And he looks freaking badass. So fathers… hide your daughters! It’s some beefy mid-tempo heavy metal with power/prog influences. Clean vocals are expected, and they delivered in that deep classic timbre. Keyboards pave the way to chugging crunchy riff and it’s pure magic like Paul ...

EP Review: Quizboy - Bella (2021) - Guest Feature by Ilya Yclept

Image
Picture Credit: Quizboy         Quizboy – Bella   Release Date: December 31st, 2021 Label: independent Format: EP Genre: alternative rock, grunge, experimental Quizboi is the moniker of Ben Dayho, a content creator who’s been steadily recording his unusual (to say at least) brand of hard rock and metal. The latest installment in his discography entitled “Bella” offers roughly a half an hour of experiments in alternative metal. The first thing that comes to mind when you hear it is “weird” - everything about Bella is unconventional and takes a certain mood to catch. And when I say everything I mean everything: all the music is composed and recorded by Ben himself, so what you hear is how god intended it to sound. And that means quite thud sandy guitars, fat bass, and a lot of screaming combined with cleaner vocals. Overall it’s noisy, gloomy and edgy. What’s of certain interest is the choice of the track for covering as the opener - it’s “Believe” by El...

EP Review: Careless Odds - It's Killing Time... (2021) - Guest Feature by Ilya Yclept

Image
Careless Odds – It's Killing Time...  Release Date: September 22rd, 2021 Label: independent Format: EP Length: 27:15 Genre: punk metal / hardcore Careless Odds, a three-piece punk outfit from Lorton, Virginia presents their first album “It’s killing time…”, and it’s, well, pretty much killer. But a little background first: the band consists of three dudes sharing the family name Abbasi (no Tosin tho), and whole album “culminated from the frustration of finding a proper studio to record” and ending up with building one of their own - which i think is totally fucking awesome. Everything kicks off with a Ramones unfused self titled track with massive overloaded guitars, which kinda explain what to expect next. With Hollow Eyes it develops into a more aggressive grungey punx.  With All that left is Hate the band literally sonically resurrects Buzzoven and makes them bang with Alice in Chains. Careless Odds - It's Killing Time... (Official Musi...

Single Review: Galladorn - The Dragon Lies Bleeding (2021) - Guest Feature by Ilya Yclept

Image
Galladorn – The Dragon Lies Bleeding (Hammerfall Cover) Release Date: November 19th, 2021 Label: Mariana Trench Records Format: single Length: 4:18 Genre: Power Metal Galladorn, a two-piece metal division, has unleashed a mighty furious cover version of a Hammerfall’s classic, Dragon Lies Bleeding. And it’s pure gold! Originally the song sets the highest bar for the genre, introducing the band to the pantheon of Maiden, Savatage and Blind Guardian. So Galladorn had little space to top it, but rather improve - and they did. The song still breathes the classic heavy metal spirit, but now with better sound. Everything is very close to the original, you can call the purist cover reimaging, because there is actually nothing new to the tune, but the production. Technically it’s flawless and I mean it: the guitar tone, the sound, the vocals and drums, it's an instant win on every level imaginable. I cannot imagine anyone who claims to love metal disliking ...

Album Review: Kravt durch Krebs - Schmerzkörper (2021) - Guest Feature by Ilya Yclept

Image
Kravt durch Krebs – Schmerzkörper Release Date: September 11th 2021 Label: independent Format: LP Length: 31:22 Genre: Ambient , Black Metal, Noise , Avantgarde , Spoken word, Doom, Dissonant , Metal , Lo-fi Kravt durch Krebs is a fresh one-man black metal act, hailing from Germany with it’s newest installment Schmerzkörper - the body of pain or the pain of the body, I guess. From the first seconds of the opening track the artist distinguishes the area of his operations, establishing a strong new school of black metal feel - “Ich bin” is dedicated to personal reflections on life, as the lyrics are built around the author’s diary. I couldn’t get what exactly is being transmitted, but the raw emotion of despair that goes perfectly with its music video - beautiful landscapes and pictures of nature. The opener is produced in the closest to your classic black metal style, with fast paced rhythm section, grainy guitar sounds and constant screaming, and the whole thing is intentionally monoto...

EP Review: Psy'Aviah - Sunbird (2021) - Guest Feature by Ilya Yclept

Image
Psy’Aviah – Sunbird (feat. Oliviya Nicole)   Release Date: October 1, 2021 Label: Alfa Matrix Format: EP Length: 43:20 Genre: dark electro, dark pop, synthpop, indie pop, dream pop Yves Schelpe, the mastermind behind Psy’Aviah, is by no means a newbie to the electronic music scene. The Belgian-based act was established in 2003 and since then has been producing diverse, high-quality releases. The latest one is dedicated to the new song, “Sunbird’, and is packed with a dozen remixes of all shapes and forms.   Psy’Aviah is signed to Alfa Matrix, an underground electronic label, and seems to always stay a bit below the mainstream radars, but definitely can’t be called obscure - Yves worked with a few famous artists, like Kyoko Baertsoen of Hooverphonic, Jennifer Parkin of AYRIA and Jean-Luc De Meyer of Front 242.   And this kind of explains exactly what you are about to hear - a full 45 minutes of sterile 90’s nostalgia worship, wrapped in every style imag...
