Thessaloniki's Instant Boner have been through some rush periods in the first years of their existence. The years 2013-18 were defined by many changes in the line up and even a short rest. When vocalist Marianthi Goula joined the band in 2018, a new dawn appeared be on the rise. Now, it's later 2020 and Instant Boner have released their first full-length album "Highplace Phenomenon".

The six-piece indulges our eardrums with 70s inspired Psychedelic Prog Rock. Smooth sound architecture is being built up with grat extravagance and plenty of sharp edges. The elegant structure of the music does indeed not contradict to Instant Boner adding heavy Stoner Rock attacks. Outstanding on the other hand, is Orentis Exintaris' saxophone. The dominant wind instrument beautifully fits the Krautjazz atmosphere that each of the songs contains.

The great versatility of this six-track album is stunningly amazing. Each song is defined by huge arrangements and gorgeous changes in tempo, mood, intensity and motifs. Great narratives are formed like full circles and create wholesome pictures for the inner cinema. And speaking of full circles, "Highplace Phenomenon" ends with 'Perfect Sund, Revisited', a new version of a song from their 2014 debut EP.
To sum it up. Instant Boner have produced an amazing album, full of progressive and psychedelic sounds and goregous krauty Jazz. Immenely various and absolutely breathtaking. I could end this review with a pun regarding the band's name. But I don't.
