Moscow-based Humaniac is an established unit in their homeland scene - being around for more than a decade, band consists of skilled local musicians from relatively well known bands (check Backdoor to Asylum, Disdained Grace, and Renunciation). Still Humaniac remains the long living and the most diverse creative outlet among them all, standing their grounds in the world of technical metal.

Until the Light Fakes Us is the third full length album and with it the band becomes bigger than it has ever been. From the very beginning Humaniac starts unrelenting tech-death assault, based on the modern sound and lots of symphonic elements. It could be best described as the aftermath of a car crash, with Dimmu Borgir, Inquisition and The Faceless as passengers who get blown into pieces and rearranged into a brutal mess. With first two tracks the band shows off the primal heavy focus on guitar oriented music, with immense shred and guitar hooks - that lick in Zuckerbrin Firewall is pure caviar. However, Daath is two minutes of epic piano atmosphere, followed by spoken word that evolves in …of 42. Fans of oldschool prog will definitely be pleased with vintage keyboard sound and acoustic intermedias.

The second part of the album doubles down on both the extreme and the experimental aspects, as songs become more aggressive exploring the classic death metal tropes - at the same time incorporating more technical and even avantgarde features - and pushing the limits on how to combine them in surprising harmony. Like the closing track that pulls off a little Ulver moment with a dance bit.
Humaniac is definitely a band that is not afraid to go beyond and try everything. This approach is good for taking drugs and extreme music - which the band does with elegance and grace.
