Christian R3ymond Saunders is a US-based producer, actively and consistently conquering the pop-soul/r’n’b scene. Raymond has been a keen creator since his childhood, and he rose all the way from the bottom to the top as an artist - beginning his journey as a choirboy and a cruise ship singer, now he is aiming really high with his latest single “Top Down”.
The song builds upon the classic legacy of mainstream soul performers, combining both its old and new schools. Minimalistic beats with a touch of electro/g-funk and disco, supplied by bumpy bass and rooting in light keyboard breeziness. The main attraction here is undoubtedly R3ymond’s voice, rich deep tenor that sounds organic when used in romantic soul/pop singing and hitting bars, occasionally flipping impressive falsettos. The song gives strong vibes of R Kelly, reworked by someone who really digs Weeknd, exploring the topic of affection, relationships and being cool.
“Top Down” shines especially bright in comparison with R3ymonds earlier works. Production and songwriting quality are way ahead of their predecessors, and the use of vocals as a tool is impressive, as the artist finds his strengths and minimizes the weaknesses.
The overall scope or R3ymond is potentially huge, taking into consideration how quickly he evolves in his craft. Definitely and artist to keep your eye on.
