Doll Riot - Get a Life
Release Date: September 02, 2022
Duration: 02:17
Genre: Grunge / Punk Rock
Origin; Oceanside, CA, USA
Oceanside's quartet Doll Riot are a very new band that has already made their first efforts in stirring up the Grunge and Punk Rock scene. Founded in 2020 by four Californian High School students, Doll Riot quickly moved from a garage band that played cover songs by their idols to succesfully releasing their selftitled EP in May 2022. The three tracks of "Doll Riot" can be found on the band's bandcamp page, one of them was also featured on Mango Moday Mixtape #054.
Instead of resting their vertical take off's laurels, Elena Olszak (guitar and vocals), Ella Sauer (guitar), London Kraus (bass), and Lillee Gillum (drums) are back with another great single release only three months after their EP dropped. Here is the first out of three singles to be released with the next half year, 'Get a Life':
Doll Riot's new track was inspired by a real life situation. The song deals with a psychopath ex partner whose overly strong affection turns into stalking and harrassment. Thus, the message is clear: 'Get a Life'! Doll Riot have some great tips on what to do instead of being a creep on social media and in real life, for that specific person the song was inspired by, and for all the other creeps and stalkers out there.
This important message is brought to the audience on a moshpit-sweeping mix of Grunge and Punk Rock that helps you shake off all anger and negativity. The dynamic and sonorous soundscape furthermore helps you to get out of your shell shout out against everything and everyone that tries to drag you down. With high distortion and heavy motion the verses roll forward like the wheels of a monstr truck while the chorus strikes like chain lightning.
Once more, Doll Riot create a powerful sound in the veins of L7, The Distillers and Blondie. From Garage Rock over Grunge and Punk Rock, the young quartet provides their audience a sweeping blow of empowering Riot Grrrl attitude. And the shout-long chorus between the heavily rolling verses is a massive ambassador for a band we will hopefully hear a lot more from.
