Picture Credit: option weg Artwork: Moni Hoffmann option weg - Mehr Bullen mehr Bomben für ein wirklich gutes Leben Release Date: September 07, 2020 Label: Elfenart Format: Vinyl / CD / Digital Length: 50:16 Genre: Deutschpunk / Folk Punk Origin: Berlin , Germany "Mehr Bullen mehr Bomben für ein wirklich gutes Leben" is German for "More Cops, more Bombs for a really good Life". By the title you might already conclude that this is about Punk Rock. But despite the sarcastic album title, option weg do not play Fun Punk. On the contrary! Even though the quartet from Berlin makes use of cynicism here and there, they have a released a highly political, antifascist, feminist and dead serious album. But let's have a closer look. This is the fourth album by option weg. The band consists of Anja  (drums and vocals), Moni  (bass, violin and vocals), Steffn  (guitar, bass and vocals), and Yok  (accordeon, drums and vocals). The quartet plays a refreshing mix of raw Deutsch...

Picture Credit: Minerva Superduty Artwork: Wolframgrafik Minerva Superduty - In Public Release Date: December 20, 2020 Label: Yetagain / Body Blows Records / Sweetohm Recordings / Bright Future / Vault Relics / 5FeetUnder Records Format: Vinyl / Digital Length: 22:09 Genre: Post Hardcore / Dark Hardcore Origin: Kalamata , Greece Minerva Superduty (or MNRV) are a band that was founded in Kalamata in 2011. "In Public" is their third album that is being co-released by six labels. "In Public" war recorded in Athens and Kalamata and might be beautiful Christmas present for those of you who enjoy Post and Dark Hardcore and a bit of Screamo. MNRV create a massive wall of powerful sounds on their new album. This is melancholy in neckbreaking tempo. Further dynamics are added by the changes in metre and speed that frequently occur on "In Public". Take the song 'Clandestine' for example which swiftly changes from brachial on-beat Hardcore sounds into a...

The long German title can be translated to "Of Walls, Towers, Bridges, and Paths". The album contains a dozen of songs that were recorded in the artist's living room. Some of the songs are completely new, others are not. For example, 'Alles Gute (bei allem was du machst)' (German: 'All the best (with everthing that you do)') was also featured on the recent EP " Stimmen aus den Trümmern " ("Voices from the Debris"). And the EP's title track opens the new album. Also, the song...

Parallel to that, Antmen  has worked on his own music for quite some time. As other things often took a higher priority, the completion of "Eşik Altı" (Turkish: "Under Threshold") got delayed several times. Now in late 2020 we can finally listen to the seven psychedelic improvisations by Alper Antmen  who played cura, e-bow, microtonal electric guitar, sitar, harmonica, sipsi, rainstick, tibetan bell, bendir, maracas and synthies on "Eşik Altı". Guest musicians are Hasan Orak Ekinci who contributed with talking drum on 'Penç' and 'Irmak', and Volkan İn...

EP Review: Stitchfork - Live Lies Truth Dies (2020)

Image
Picture Credit: Stitchfork Stitchfork -   Live Lies Truth Dies Release Date: July 2020 Label: selfrelease Format: CD / Digital Length: 13:50 Genre: Stoner Metal / Southern Rock Origin: The Hague , Netherlands "Live Lies Truth Dies" is the debut EP by Dutch band Stitchfork. The four-track EP has been selfreleased this summer on CD and each of the tracks can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. Stitchfork present themselves with broad shoulders, heavy fuzz and a steady foot on the gas pedal. Click here to stream the song 'Delia' Unfortunately, I could not find the band on YouTube. Thus, the facebook video for 'Delia' is linked above. 'Delia' by the way, is by far the best track on this EP. It sticks out of the swamp of "Live Lies Truth Dies" due to its really cool Heavy Blues Rock theme. The rest of the EP is a bit monotonous if you ask me. I am missing clear hints of creativity here. Heavy sound produced with massive fuzz and hig...
