EP Review: Careless Odds - It's Killing Time... (2021) - Guest Feature by Ilya Yclept

Careless Odds – It's Killing Time...  Release Date: September 22rd, 2021 Label: independent Format: EP Length: 27:15 Genre: punk metal / hardcore

Careless Odds, a three-piece punk outfit from Lorton, Virginia presents their first album “It’s killing time…”, and it’s, well, pretty much killer.

But a little background first: the band consists of three dudes sharing the family name Abbasi (no Tosin tho), and whole album “culminated from the frustration of finding a proper studio to record” and ending up with building one of their own - which i think is totally fucking awesome.

Everything kicks off with a Ramones unfused self titled track with massive overloaded guitars, which kinda explain what to expect next. With Hollow Eyes it develops into a more aggressive grungey punx.

With All that left is Hate the band literally sonically resurrects Buzzoven and makes them bang with Alice in Chains.

Slaughterhouse kinda passed me by, but with Death OClock Careless Odds reinvented my favorite brand of ugly sludge punk - Superjoint Ritual is alive and kicking!

With Blood Punch heavy drugs begin to take their toll as the song decomposes into something that Conan would probably dig.

The closing three songs possess a more strung out blues feel, including the bands most popular song to date - At the End, which is a ballad i guess? A kind of ballad you’d expect from a band like that, drowned in reverb and hopelessness,

Overall i find Careless odds extremely talented and having some serious potential to become the next King Gizzard (but on heroin).
