Genre: Indie Folk / Indie Pop
Origin: Nashville, TN, USA
CHLSY in an established award winning artist, who aims to make the world a better place where everything good overtakes the objective bad. And her weapon of choice in the fight with social injustice is dramatic pop music.
What might at first seem as your typical MTV American dream band has actually outgrown that demanding status, finding a firmer foothold in the area of social activism and genuine 90’s sound. As years passed, CHLSYs songwriting skill and video production quality both improved noticeably.
Behind the songs stands the mastermind of Chelsea Gilliland, the young prodigy who does both singing and playing the guitar. Accompanied by Sean Swanson on bass and Sawyer Dodds on drums, trio creates an impressive and polished sound mixed in the classic tradition of the biggest pop acts of the last decade. Each band member’s melodical input is felt in the mix, creating true creative synergy.
The bands latest instalment “Vancouver” portrays the band in its peak form - it is catchy, it is sentimental and performed flawlessly. You get your expected warm, crystal clear guitar tones and soft drumming, which are complete with Chelsea’s beautiful vocals - and it’s something - this is how a romantic movie would sound. Imagine Sinead O’Connor’s pre-breakdown tender ballads with a bit of Jessica Simpsons’ approach - their fleur of the 90s in all its glory, an ideal mix of youth, sadness and hope in the swirl of soft rock and great voice.
“Vancouver” is definitely a recipe for “summertime sadness” and “slow dance at the prom with first school love soon to be separated because of different colleges' '. It will drag you into a vortex of your sweet dreams and teen worries. The grass was always greener back then. And it still is.
