"Blue" is the first longplayer by Northwest Germany's quintet All Nine Yards. The band was formed in 2017 and has since then released a four-track demo (2018) and their six-track "Silver EP" (2019). Consequently, the 2020 LP has eight... no, it doesn't - "Blue" contains a dozen tracks.

The music on "Blue" can best be described as Alternative Rock with a modern version of Grunge. The dark atmosphere of late 1990s Rock is wrapped up in a modern, boppy, danceable package. The instruments change between distorted and crunchy sounds on the one hand, and pinchig electronic glitches on the other. The latter effect may then and when remind of late-day Linkin Park.

"Blue" makes me wonder if this is the kind of music, bands like Nirvana would create today if Cobain would not have shot his had off. Grunge goes Alternative, goes Pop, goes... Euro Dance? Some of the songs really have the potential to make the masses dance in discotheques. The poppy dance track 'Creatures of the Night' is the best example for that. And honestly, why the heck not?

Even though, the Post-Grunge played by All Nine Yards has a strong and catchy pop-appeal, it conveys honest, reflected and empowering lyrics. I have to confess, the music does not totally drag or convince me, but the band really deserves to be heard. And if they play on big stages and get featured on big radio shows next year, I absolutely grant them.
If you enjoy the musical approach by All Nine Yards and do not hesitate do go even more electronic, I recommend you to listen to League of Lights, too.
