Here is a real tidbit for the cineasts among you. If you happen to be a lover of films, and also understand German, you might also be interested in this podcast.
Nevertheless, here is the latest single by Californian duo Chestnut which includes the two eponymous songs 'The Winter We Were Vampires' and 'The Original Wolf Man'. And if you are acquainted with the early horror film genre, you might have already watched at least one of these pioneer works.
(By the way, it might be possible that those films don't even exist - my research hasn't led to any proof. There are samples on the songs, but still I cannot tell for sure.)

Christina Santa Cruz (bass, vocals, percussions) and Daniel Watkins (guitar, vocals, saw, harmonica, piano) were inspired when they visited The Unknown Film Festival in Portland, 2019. With this two-track release, they pay tribute to the Golden Age of Horror and to its immortal soul (and probably rotting body).
The A-Side 'The Winter We Were Vampies' is not only a great alliteration but also a great and bloodthirsty Post Punk banger. Daniel on vocals adds some Dead Boys vibes to this dynamic song that is full of horror and gore.
'The Original Wolf Man' on the B-Side is a lot slower but even darker than the first track. Somewhere between Shoegaze, New Wave, and a hand that is slowly strangulating you, Christina sings a gorgeous anthem for an abomination.
And so, Chestnut have musicked two beautiful nightmares. Be sure to add this one to your playlist for Halloween or for horror film nights.

Music from every post will stay in the MangoRotation playlist for 14 days.
