Always happy when my musical atlas gets rid of another blank spot. This time it's the East Mediterranean island state of Cyprus that is being added to my sound map. More precisely, today's discovery leads us to the 230.000 inhabitants-town of Limassol in Southern Cyprus.
Limassol is the home of Constantinos Pavlides (drums), Andreas Kerveros (bass, backing vocals), Stathis Hadjicharalambous (guitar) and Panagiotis I.G. (guitar, vocals). Together they are Arcadian ¥ Child.
"Protopsycho" is already the third album by Arcadian ¥ Child. The band has been very active, looking at their catalogue so far: "Afterglow" came out in autumn 2017 and "Superfonica" was released in late 2018. Earlier this year, a live LP helped to bridge the wait for "Protopsycho".
Arcadian ¥ Child play mesmerizing Stoner and Psychedelic Rock. And that's not all of it. Their style is a very unique mix of amazing ingredients. Just listen to the opener of the track 'Wave High' (video above). The sound brings us back to the glorious days of Psych Folk, and I must say, I am reminded of Jethro Tull a bit in this song.

And there is more! On the first half of the album especially, Arcadian ¥ Child add gorgeous harmonies to their songs. In my ignorant Western European language I would speak of Oriental scales here. It is the melodic beauty of bands like Uluru or Kirkbinsinek that hits retro style Heavy Blues Rock and makes them join a hallucinogetic dance through burning hot desert sand.
Arcadian ¥ Child unite a whole bunch of awesome sound in their music. "Protopsycho" is settled somewhere between R.E.M., Jethro Tull, Thin White Rope and Moğollar. And yet, it does not sound like a copy of either. Unique, stunning and absolutely mesmerizing. Do yourselves a favour and get a copy of this album on next Bandcamp Friday (or earlier).
