ΕΙΕΝ - In this Game
Release: November 23, 2019
Label: selfrelease
Format: CD / Digital
Length: 38:51
Genre: Heavy Metal / Modern Metal
Origin: Athens. Greece

It has been quite around Athens' Modern Heavy Metal band ΕΙΕΝ for some years. "The Sickening" was released back in 2014. But five years later the qunitet from the Greek capital are back with their newest release "In this Game". It is a nother pre-COVID work on this channel. I would say we keep up some positivity. Whether a "1984"-themed album can come up to this, I don't want to argue about.

The line-up on the newest ΕΙΕΝ album is:
Andy P - bass,
Paris X - guitars,
Thanos K - drums,
Tim V - guitars,
Mike A - vocals,
and the guests
Nikos Panagiotopoulos - bass, and
Chrysa Tsaltampasi - vocals on the tracks 'Where I belong', 'The last Messiah' and 'Seize the Day'.

The sound on "In this Game" is rough and heavy. ΕΙΕΝ combine elements of 80s Heavy Metal with some Thrash Metal influence, harsh breaks, and the Modern Metal atmosphere of the time around the Millenium. Intense riffs roll forward while they are perfused by high-pitched leads that sting like a hail of needles. Between the Thrash Metal- and Hardcore-esk breaks massive shouts and deep screams by Master of Ceremony Mike create a dystopian atmosphere. And especially the guest vocal by Chrysa Tsaltampasi add a certain grinding tension.

Heavy, straightforward, and yet melodic ΕΙΕΝ tell the tales of a world in which freedom of speech has already been abolished by a totalitarian regime. "In this Game" is a very catchy and rough album. If you enjoy Modern Metal like Adema or Ironstone, this one is a definite recommendation for you.
