Wake the Blind - Broken Casket
Release: June 12, 2020
Format: CD/Digital
Length: 17:03
Genre: Nu Metalcore

Melbourne's Nu Metalcore quintet first appeared on my Facebook page when their single "X2" was released. That single was the precursor for the EP "Broken Casket", Wake the Blind's debut. On five tracks, including the singles 'X2' and 'Patient' the band presents their interpretation of Nu Metalcore. The genre should be pretty selfexplanatory. Rough and melodic Nu Metal riffing with certain Modern Metal influences is being merged wih heavy Metalcore breaks.

New blogger ist still having issues with finding YouTube videos, so click here for the music video of the opening track 'Patient' feat. guest singer David de la Hoz. Some readers might remember this name, as de la Hoz was featured on Without Belief's EP "The Parting Gift", too.
Wake the Blind create enormous soundscapes on their first EP. The songs are steadily rolling forward on heavy wheels. Drummer Adam Spackman thrashes the beats with the intesity of a jackhammer. Adam Humphreys (bass), Anthony Georgiou (guitar) and Brandon Tadday (guitar) create massive and shattered images on this foundation. Polyphone brachiality is carried forward with plenty of distortion, gain and some mesmerizing effects. At some points, there is a certain impact of Djent conveyed by the brutal riffs.

Click here for 'X2', another video that cannot be found by new blogger.
Vocalist Dylan Stone shows off an enormous spectrum of tones and singing techniques. Harmonic clear vocals, constrained shouts, brachial guttural grunts and everything between add to the variety on this intense soundscape.
The lyrics concern chasms of modern-day human society, such as violence, drug abuse, suicidality and mental issues which are connected to our contemporary social reality. But Wake the Blind are not giving up or despairing. Their heavy music is highly empowering and uplifting. Defiencies are being denounced, and resistance is declared against them. The EP contains a lot of "You can't bring us down!"-attitude.
Wake the Blind debut with a powerful release. Melodic, brutal, checquered and salutogenetic. In some parts they remind me of the better times of American Nu Metal band KoRn mixed with the intense breaks of early Caliban.
