Heruka - No Sun dared pass our Windows
Release: June 15, 2020
Format: CD/Digital
Length: 40:30
Origin: Rome, Italy

The music play by Italian Oniric Black Metal band Heruka is influenced by the atmosphere in Sicilian village Erice. My family is Sicilian and I have visited Erice twice. Once, it was extremely foggy and super gloomy. If you like classic Horror movies, I can highly recommend you having a look at this magical place.
"No Sun dared pass our Windows" is the second longplayer by Heruka. On ten tracks the Roman quartet presents their unique approach to Black Metal and dark arts.

The sound is raw and prickly. Highspeed riffs dash across the heavy gunfire by drummer Nemuri Shi. The soundscape contains a lot from classic Black Metal à la Bathory combined epic melodic chants and leads. Further impact is given by a medieval horror air and a certain doomy atmosphere. Also, the hoarse but deep vocals by Nekrom sound very uncommon, and they fit the musical background perfectly.

I am looking forward to the day when Blogger will find YouTube content as easily as it did before the update.. click here for another song from the new album.
The rough atmosphere is saturated by impressive melodies played by Adranor (guitar) and Moha (bass). Harmonically and partially even symphonically Heruka create wholesome pictures of brutal sound. Some similarities to Northern European Black Metal can be spotted, but Heruka's music does not convey the typical cold. Instead, the brachial arrangements sound like they were soaked with blood.

Lyric-wise Heruka do not do the typical Black Metal stuff either. "No Sun dared pass our Windows" concerns mental illness as experienced from those who are afflicted. It is a serious and uncommonly refreshing approach to musick depression or burn out via Black Metal. And it works excellently!
With their song 'United States of Insanity' the band has also included a potshot towards the tweeting president.
I am really delighted by the unorthodox Black Metal Heruka play. "No Sun dared pass our Windows" is butt-kicking, brutal, honest and unique.
