The Fisherman and his Soul - Ennio Ennui (MR)
Sebastian Voss from Münster, Germany is probably best known for playing with Dutch Jangle Pop band Nah..., and with German Indie Rockers Lancaster. But his solo works are worth checking out as, just like the latest single "Ennio Ennui" that was released in the second week of the new year. The output by The Fisherman and his Soul begins with the dynamic and Latin Folk-influenced anthemic song 'A White Actor (These Walls have Ears)'. The second song 'Arnd walks home after the Show' is an easygoing, Krautrock-flavoured jazzy tune to move your hips to.
Listening recommendation: Put on some dancing shoes and fine clothes for this release.

1st Base Runner - Ellis (MR)
Another recently released work by a one-person band is the EP "Ellis" by Tim Hussmann from Austin, Texas, also known as 1st Base Runner. The music producer undertakes a sonic journy to the late night dancehalls of the 1980s and 1990s. While "Ellis" is opened by the energetic Post Punk hymn 'Near me', the following track 'Flux' dives deep into the emotional and soulful spheres of Dream Pop. The next songs 'Numbers' and 'WXW' expand towards the realms of Wave, New Wave, and Dark Wave, until the massively atmospheric Ambient track 'Man Overboard' perfectly closes the arc of suspense.
Listening recommendation: 'Near me', 'Man Overboard'

White Trash Blues Band - We got Time to waste (MR)
Originally from Sykkylven, Norway, the quintet White Trash Blues Band has meanwhile moved to the capital Oslo. A rehearsal room became their meeting point for fun activities such as wasting time together. Some of these activities had to do with beverages, others are connected to the use of music instruments. Thus, one thing lead to another, and the White Trash Blues Band wasted their time for a good purpose. The first result of these meetings is the debut album "We got Time to waste" that combines dirty Garage Rock and Punk with powerful Rhythm and Blues. Not only fans of The Kings of Nuthin' will joyfully raise their glasses to these hymns.
Listening recommendation: 'No such Thing', 'Mizz Mizzing'

The AoD - Remain (MR)
'Do we remain?', is the question and the song that opens the latest EP by Hungarian quintet The AoD. The four-track release points the finger at the status quo of humankind and life on Earth. Will our kind survive? Or will 'The Inevitable' occur and we are in the middle of 'The Vortex Scheme' dragging us towards 'Doom'? If the end is near, at least eschaton has a nice soundtrack. The AoD provide us with atmospheric and gloomy Alternative Metal with Prog vibrations and a melancholic Post Punk mood.
Listening recommendation: 'The Vortex Scheme', 'The Inevitable'

Pet Needs - The Fractured Party Volume 1 (MR)
Nine months after its release, Pet Needs' latest album "Fractured Party Music" has had its first baby. The quartet from Colchester, England presents a much faster version of the album track 'As the Spin Cycle Span', the two new songs 'Punk isn't dead (it's just up for Sale)' and 'Dallas', and an acoustic vesion of 'Tracey Emin's Bed'. This EP is full of occasions to raise your glasses to.
Listening recommendation: The EP alone (Bandcamp), or the combined version with the original album (Spotify) both taste delicious.

Woodcreeper - Mephisto's Kite (MR)
Chad, Riff, and Andy from Dubuque, Iowa create Grunge and Alternative Rock so crunchy and fuzzy it can gut whole houses. At the same time, their dynamic sound is coined by hypnotizing and atmospheric elements from Psychedelic and Stoner Rock. Their new album "Mephisto's Kite" feels like a massive tank plowing through buildings blocks and leaving nothing behind but green smoke. Imagine the love child of Alice in Chains and Fu Manchu.
Listening recommendation: 'Lavos Chronos', 'Puddy Cat Twist'

Kemerov - Anti-Hero (MR)
The newest release by Greek Death'n'Roll war machine Kemerov has been released on December 17, 2021 in the quartet's home country. Outside of Greece, "Anti-Hero" has been available since January 14, 2022. On nine new songs and a playtime of forty minutes, Matt, Giorgos, Tasos, and Spiros from Serres present a sound that consists of brutal Death Metal riffs, merciless Punk'n'Roll rhythms, and an infernal atmosphere that reaches from Stenchcore to Thrash Metal.
Listening recommendation: 'Anti-Hero Tights', 'Count me out'

Black Spell - The Purple Skull (MR)
Reborn and baptized by the 'Dark Priest of Hell', Italian Psychedelic Doom Metal band Black Spell present their new album "Purple Skull". In the tradition of occvlt sounds masters such as Coven, Arthur Brown, or Pentagram, Johan, Pierre, and Alastair raise horror, doom, and (at least) seven hells. Fuzzy riffs swirl like fumes of infernal flames while vocals like black sermons summon enough dark forces to undertake at least three apocalypses. This is horror, doom, and psychedelia at its best.
Listening recommendation: 'Dark Priest of Hell', 'Blood Communion'

Guitars on Drugs - Living with Paranoia
London-based Guitars on Drugs present a fuzz-loaded, somewhat acidic, and massive Garage Rock and Post Punk sound that is definitely haunted. But different to Black Spell, the demonsdealt with on this album are not to be found in books about mysticism or eschaton. Instead, "Living with Paranoia" deals with anxiety, fear, and mental health issues. Honestly, autochthonously, and mercilessly, Guitars on Drugs reveal a very real image of many people's reality.
Listening recommendation: 'Strangers', 'Dark Angel'

Aveth - Der Untergang
Founded in 2018, Aveth is a duo consisting of Dreakavak and Agoth. The two artists from Russian town Kungur have released their fourth full-length album "Der Untergang" (German: "Doom", or "Deacy") via Narcoleptica Productions on January 17, 2022. As it can be derived from the album title, Aveth's Black Metal on this release is deeply influenced by apocalyptic lyrical content, and Doom Metal music-wise. Trancy chorals as in the track 'Burial Orations growling under miserable Neverlands' beautifully prove how Aveth have mastered the combination of Raw Black Metal, Doom Metal, and atmospheric Post Metal.
Listening recommendation: 'Burial Orations growling under miserable Neverlands', 'The Edge of the Broken Sky'

Hallux Valgus - Reflections of Distant Dreams
When the band's debut album was released in their home country Chile about a year ago, Hallux Valgus should have received much more attention. Fortunetaly, physical copies will be available via Norwegian label Edged Circle Productions from March 25, 2022 on. The ten tracks on "Reflections of Distant Dreams" are pure Thrash and Death Metal gold for fans of Death. Ultra fast riffs remorselessly rage forward while the vocalist is spitting venom like crazy.
Listening recommendation: 'Murderous Instinct', 'Disturbed Corpse'

The Mountain King - Convergence (MR)
The release on hand is the official soundtrack to the movie adaption of "The Last Kaiju". Doom Metal one-person army The Mountain King from Mainz, Germany is creating thrilling film music, Ambient, and Drone on his latest release. While this may not be the typical TMK sound as in the artist's recent releases, it is a stunning and mesmerizing soundtrack to hit stellar pipes to.
Listening recommendation: 'Convergence Main Titel', 'Fist of Swarms'

Le Butcherettes / Death Valley Girls - The Universe b/w When I'm Free (MR)
On the A-Side of this 7'' split, Teri Gender Bender, the mastermind behind Le Butcherettes takes the listeners on a fantastic sonic trip. Vocals, loops, and magic create a sonic vortex to dive in to. On the B-Sides, the Death Valley Girls present the triumphant song of victory and liberation 'When I'm free'.
Listening recommendation: Play both sides repeatedly

taylorshit.net - mise en abyme
Following "Lickin' the airplane toilet bc I'm gross like that" and "Mango Coconut Habanero", here is another masterpiece by the weirdo collective taylorshit.net. On "mis en abyme", the artists drag their audience into a dark chasm. It is a long and partially painful journey, divided into the two parts 'Victoria' and 'BonIvermectin'. Neither of them cures COVID.
Once more, taylorshit.net go beyond Noise, Free Jazz, and improvised Freakshow styles. This is not for cowards!
Listening recommendation: sounds best after the booster shot
