The Grand Prix - Surf Panama (MR)
(03:07, Single, Digital, Reilhac Records, 03/06/2022)
The Grand Prix from French capital Paris take us on a multidimensional journey with their new single 'Surf Panama'. Geographically, the quartet makes their audience enter a sonic vessel at whereever the journey may commence - could be Paris, could also be Kuala Lumpur. The destination is clear though since this intercontinental surfing trip leads towards the Americas and their gorgeous countrysides that reach from stunning shorelines over barren steppes to vibrant jungles.
The second dimension of this trip refers to music. The Grand Prix provide us with a mesmerizing and silmutaneously dynamic mix of funky choirs, psychedelic atmosphere, and a somewhat jazz-impacted Surf Rock tune.
And last but not least, the third dimension begins in the listeners' minds and climaxes in their bodies. Let the tunes of 'Surf Panama' afflict your brains, and see how your bodies react by dancing.
Everything but the Everything feat. Adam Brookes - A & B Sides Vol. I (MR)
(06:52, EP, Digital, selfrelease, 10/06/2022)
The EP on hand is the result of a collaboration between Everything but the Everything from Oakland, California and Adam Brookes from San Francisco. Together, the quartet and the music producer dive into the most colourful and vibrant sounds of the 1980s. Post Punk, Dream Pop, New Wave and the most dynamic form of Shoegaze combine when the minds of these geniuses met. By contributing additional vocals, synths and guitars to the atmospheric sound of these Everything but the Everything songs, Adam Brookes gave 'Open your Mind' and 'We want more' that magical little extra that turns them into explosive bangers.
And just like this, these two amazing tracks are a hypnotizing, trancy, gloomy, and yet boppy dance through time and space. Everything but the Everything and Adam Brookes lead us to an enchanted space where light and dark do not differ - instead, they create the beat together. And furthermore, the musicians have an important message for their listeners: we, the people, we are all equal, and until that has not been reached, 'We want more'.
Zolder Ellipsis - Entropy Override
(43:07, Album, CD/Digital, Lizard Records, 20/01/2022)
When Tom Aldrich from Amsterdam, Netherlands began reverse-engineering "Civilization: Phaze III" by Frank Zappa, the first steps of this path towards avantgardist madness were made. A few detours and thoughts later, Aldrich met with Ivo Bol, Théo Lanau, Chad Langford, and Sean Morgan - together they are Zolder Ellipsis, a gathering of musical geniuses, pioneers and weirdos. After only one week of convergence an album was born that can easily tear down any concept of Free Jazz, Freakshow, Avantgarde, and yet it still follows a red line by implementing Prog, Post Metal or Jazz passages.
This is some serious next level-stuff. And simultaneously, Aldrich and his guests still know how to take their listeners by the hand and lead them into the next experimental sonic delusion.
Unicorn Partisans - Repression Depression (MR)
(37:07, EP, CD/Digital, selfrelease, 27/03/2022)
Tan-Ya (former vocalist of Russian Crust band Peace Enforcement) and Scheng-Fou (drummer of German Techno Punk/ Hardcore Breakbeat band Guts Pie Earshot) are Unicorn Partisans. Their debut EP "Repression Depression" is a collection of political, motivating, melancholic, and raw Electropunk or Technocrust bangers with German, English and Russian lyrics.
Unicorn Partisans support the fight against oppression by the patriarchy and its supporters, by capitalism and slavery, or by authority and fascist structures. And speaking of the latter, the revenue of this release will be donated to Operation Solidarity - a non-authoritarian organization in Ukraine.
Together with their guests, Unicorn Partisans bring the sound of the revolution. Harsh and raw Techno sounds evolve from pure darkness as the merciless Crust vocals grind on them like a rusty iron. This is the sound to raise your fists and raze the oppressers' castles to.
Bleakness - Life at a Standstill (MR)
(33:37, Album, Vinyl/CD/Digital, Sabotage Records/Sounds of Subterrania, 17/06/2022)
"Life at a Standstill" is the second full-length release by Bleakness from Lyon, France. The trio hereby reacts to the crippling, paralyzing, destryoing madness of the world we live in. A reality that leaves us with myriads of reasons to give up throw the towl every day, Jake, Fabien, and Nicolas shout against the darkness because 'Resignation Kills'. Their pitch black mix of Punk, Death Rock and Post Punk is the loud voice of those who do not want to give up. As dark and merciless as the sound on "Life at a Standstill" is, it is yet the sound that is ready to push life out of this standstill moment and let it roll again. And thus, this amazing album calls to unite, stand up and fight because there is a better future worth living for.
Hiroe - Wrought (MR)
(27:06, EP, Vinyl/CD/Digital, Pelagic Records/Souldfood, 08/07/2022)
And since this episode of Fresh Mango has gradually dragged us from the light side of life to the dark, and then animated us to fight for a better future, Hiroe from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania are here to present the sound of a lifeless planet. The massively heavily and simultaneously bouyantly atmospheric alloy of Psychedelic Post Rock, Space Rock and Post Metal creates a gorgeous, cold and peaceful lifeless soundscape. Between the sound of clashing planets and collapsing stars, the air of interstellar vastness provides goosebumps, passion and grandeur. "Wrought" is an exceptional and outstanding Post Rock and Post Metal release without equals.
