Not too long ago, Sh!t out of Luck was still an acoustic duo from the metropolitan area of Swabia. Their Acoustic Punk or Anti-Folk sound can be compared to the works by Harry Gump, and it can be streamed and bought on bandcamp. Nevertheless, things have changed. Sh!t out of Luck are still based in the greater region of Stuttgart and they still play dynamic music with antifascist lyrics. But since the release of "Acoustic as Fuck" SooL have grown to become a quartet. Founding members Quentin (tambourine and drums) and Tim (guitars, bass and vocals) have been accompanied by Merlin (bass) and Mike (guitar). In this constellation the album on hand has been recorded - or, to be more precise, Merlin has recorded the bass for 'Copernicus was wrong' and Mike's guitar can be heard on 'Never again'. Nevertheless, here is "Afraid of Peace".
Sh!t out of Luck call their music Anarcho Funk. The development that the sund has gone through since the previous release can hardly be measured as a whole since "Afraid of Peace" is a colourfully various bouquet of sound. The Anti-Folk attitude has not completely been abandoned as the title track proves. Still, SooL have cast their sonic net wide. And thus, moshpit-ready Punk Rock has left its traces on the album as well as sonorous Blues, upbeat Ska, butt-kicking Funk, and of course Anti-Folk.
"Afraid of Peace" is a sympathetic and honest collection of sonic zeitgeist documents. SooL present their thoughts about the status quo of humankind and the planet they live on. Between swaying ballads and party bangers, the climax of "Afraid of Peace" is the song 'Fuck the N.R.A.' which does not need further explanation.
And just like that, "Afraid of Peace" is a great album to play at a party, during a car ride, and of course when protesting a world with less fire arms.
Nevermind Folk, Punk or Ska, this is Anarcho Funk!
