EP Review: The Same River - Live at the Blackbox (2020)
The Same River are four musicians from Athens, Greece. In March 2020 they came out with their first release. The four-track EP "Live at the Blackbox" is a self-explanatory output since it was recorded live at the Blackbox in Athens.
"Live at the Blackbox" contains twenty of halting, intense and thrilling Heavy Blues Rock. The Same River creates huge scaffoldings of slow but powerful motifs hot as desert sand. In the acoustic introductions and bridges of the songs the band sometimes reminds me of Tito & Tarantula which might be due to the remarkable voice of Diamond Pr. The heavy parts on the other hand show some similarity with early Coogans Bluff.
As each of the tracks climax The Same River build impressive bridges between warmly rolling Blues Rock and bone-dry Desert Rock. A beautiful feature are the synthesizers which often create sounds of wind - a highly psychedelic experience. Just close your eyes, open your ears, and your mind will be transferred on top of a wandering dune.
Line Up on "Live at the Blackbox":
Vocals, Guitars, Synths - Diamond Pr (Cyanna Mercury)
Guitars - Theodore Ntilgeris (The Great Black Shark)
Bass Guitar - Dimitris Georgopoulos (Deaf Radio, Cyanna Mercury)
Drums - Fivos Katsifloros (One Man Drop)
"Live at the Blackbox" is a powerload of a debut. Desert cruisers, pistoleros, Western fans, Blues Rockers and Stoned Doomers should definitely check this one out and follow band. According to rumours The Same River are already working on a full-length release.
