Birdman Cult - Ferryman (MR)
(05:10, Single, Digital, Donut Records, 11/05/2022)
The first eighty seconds of Birdman Cult's latest single 'Ferryman' alone are completely stunning. The setup begins with a sonorous and fuzzy guitar that is accompanied by ethereal chorals. As the chorus is repeated in a trancy way, the sounds in the background build up to become a monumental wall of high voltage. And then, Birdman Cult from South English Bristol jump in medias res as their black sermon turns into a dynamic Post Punk banger. The gloomy thrill still remains a majo feature of the soundscape as the quintet tells the story of the Greek myth of Charon, the ferryman who demands two coinds from those who want to cross the Styx river and consequently enter the Hades. As dark as it is, the reference to this ancient myth is an analogy to contemporary days in which doom appears closer than before. And thus, the rising of the song's thrilling atmosphere does not chip until the end. The final chorus ends in a rapidly fading out tone that makes this great song's end appear like the final sequences of an intense dream.

SALt - Fairytale on Fire (MR)
(43:47, Album, Vinyl, HX Records/Rough Trade, 13/05/2022)
SALt from Scotland's capital Edinburgh have released a vinyl-only album via HX Records. Fans of the Scottish Alternative Rock, Pop Punk, and Indie Rock band still have the chance to listen to some of th songs online until the 12'' record finds the way onto their turntables. The singles 'Suffocate', 'Box Car', 'Tumbleweed', and 'The Sea Wakes' can be streamed via Spotify.
On their new eleven-track longplayer, the quartet lets the sweetest melodies of Pop Punk dance like happy little sunrays through misty skies made from Shoegaze and Indie Rock. Beneath this colourful image there is a heavy foundation of Alternative Rock that marks the soil of this sonic picture while the area between air and ground is defined by bittersweet Post Punk.
This wholesome transgenre oeuvre combines the sounds of BSÍ, Get Jealous, The Cranberries, Fischer-Z, and Joanna Gemma Auguri. And despite the assumptions that these comparisons may wake, on "Fairytale on Fire", SALt sound more like SALt than ever before. So, let the needle kiss the vinyl and dive into a world of fantastic tales.

The Heavy North - Electric Soul Machine (MR)
(41:42, Album, Vinyl/CD/Digital, selfrelease, 23/04/2022)
Over the course of twelve months, The Heavy North from English city Liverpool has teased the listeners with four ex ante singles to their full-length debut which was out on Record Store Day 2022. Vinyl record, CD, and digital download can be purchased on the band's homepage, and the CD version even features three bonus tracks from the band's earliest days.
The title "Electric Soul Machine" is a fantastic way how to describe the music by The Heavy North and its main components. There is the heavy and broad-shouldered part that is made from massive Hard Rock and Rock'n'Roll. The Heavy North have obviously let water from the Mississippi Delta flow into their music. And then there also is that deeply soulful, sensual, and heart-warming element that comes via organ-driven passages and atmospheric choruses - it is the kind of Soul by artists like Moving Oos. And finally, there is electricity. It can be felt in the air when The Heavy North create immense arcs of suspense, it can be heard through the distorted guitar sounds, and it makes you move your body to the rhythm. And that is what makes the "Electric Soul Machine" so beautiful and dynamic simultaneously.

Kargyr - Chronophobic (MR)
(08:27, Single, Digital, Little Rascal Records, 16/03/2022)
Chronophobia is the fear of time, or the fear of time passing by. This disposition can cause severe problems for a person's psychological and physical health, and can impair the affected people's daily lives intensely. If you know someone who suffers from chronophobia or if you are affected yourself, do not hesitate to seek for help and treatment. You can find some basic information here, and your local doctor and/or psychiatrist will be of further help.
Going back to music, the song on hand, 'Chronophobic' by French one-person band Kargyr is the opening track to their first EP "Kargyr". The self-titled debut was recorded in a small garage in French city Lyon. The self-made recording studio was equipped with six mattresses for insulation, et voilà, it is a DIY studio.
The creative process that took place in this spartanic environment is a massively heavy and eclectically sophisticated piece of brutal arts. Kargyr presents a soundscape in which atmospheric and jazzy passages are interrupted by brachial Death Metal attacks until they create a powerful vortex of Prog Metal that comes with artistic changes in metre and tempo.

Call in Dead - Patriarchy (MR)
(01:05, Single, Digital, DCxPC Live, 29/04/2022)
Athough this is not the first time that Call in Dead are featured on MangoWave, there is something new that we can hereby celebrate. With new member Ripley, the band from Orlando, Florida now has a vocalist who absorbs the band's raging energy and simultaneously catalizes this power through her voice. With the single 'Patriarchy' as the deuce for the new line-up, one can say that Call in Dead's immense power has even been increased.
The song itself may be quite short but it has a lot more content than one might assume when listening to it casually. First of all, there is the title 'Patriarchy' - that hegemonial system of oppression and misogyny that we still need to overcome. Then, both in the song's final line as on the cover artwork, a very importan phrase is uttered: 'Fuck your Gender Norms'. And that exclamation leads to the band's home, Florida. The Sunshine State is known for its hot weather, for Disney World, and for its consevative government which has recently made it illegal for teachers to tell children about homosexuality.
Call in Dead's 'Patriarchy' sounds like the wake-up call for people in Florida and everywhere else. The harsh Hardcore Punk banger is the soundtrack to rate the patriarch's castles and let the revolution begin.

Sweet and harmonic Folk tunes that reach from Americana to Celtic Folk, from Chanson to Polka lovingly embrace Progressive and Psychedelic Folk arrangements. The music on this beautful and whole some sonic narrative is free from local or temporal boundaries, and instead celebrates the beauty of arts.

Dog Dimension - Rabies (MR)
(23:27, EP, Vinyl/CD/Digital, Dogspeed! Records, 13/05/2022)
Within the three years of their existence, Berlin, Germany-based trio has now released three EPs of which the latest one is the six-track release "Rabies". When three musicians have dropped three such powerful EPs within three years, the rule third time's a charm works threefold - and thus, it is no wonder that Dog Dimension are now working on their first full-length album.
Taking a closer look on the EP on hand, we can spot the elements of the ongoing Grunge Revival in its most beautiful form. Vocalist and bassist Josefine Lukschy fronts a wall of sounds that reaches from emotional or melancholic spheres back to heavy loads of Alternative Rock wrecking balls. An extra experimental element makes the EP even more exciting as Dog Dimension add features from Glitch, Trip Hop, or D'n'B to the tracks 'Crust' and 'Grand Prix'. This is some great futuristic Grunge entertainment!

After having signed with Apollon Records, the band from Norway has finalized a beautifully coherent and soulful ten-track sonic trip that lets the listeners discover the most enchanted and fantastic spots of our world. The bittersweet melancholy of Shoegaze takes the hand of energetic Indie Rock rhythms as they join an eclectic Prog Rock dance. (35:01, Album, Vinyl/CD/Cassette, SBÄM Records, 13/05/2022)

A compilation and an Acoustic EP later, the quintet is back with their dozen-track full-length release "The Golden Life". Pulley's new album fulfills all requirements of an awesome Skate Punk album.
