Step into the Kitchen - A Fruitful Tenure (MR)
(05:51, Single, Digital, Ten Dollar Recording Co./Hot Breath Publishing, 05/04/2022)
Step into the Kitchen from Portland, Oregon present another fantastic journey through the thickest regions of our synapses. A strong hallucinatory and psychedelic Dub theme opens this song that spreads the feeling of falling into pillows in super slowmotion. With a gentle "Hey-hey-hey" that might remind of The Rolling Stones' seeking for satisfaction, a sonic rift is being opened. And suddenly the velocity of the trip through this musical dreamscape is accelerated by the power of tasty Funk and Trip Hop. The Dub motifs return gradually, and by the end of the song the tempo is back to the original. After these six minutes of psychedelic music, the listeners may rub their eyes and wonder whether this was real or just the sweetest fantasy. Press play once more and find out!

Mo Douglas - Ample Room for Grooving (MR)
(03:01, Single, Digital, Ten Dollar Recording Co./Hot Breath Publishing, 13/05/2022)
With this new song, Mo Douglas is giving us 'Ample Room for Grooving'. The title could not fit better since this dynamic song creates a vast space to move, dance, sit, relax, or work in. But whatever you do, and however mobile you are, the rhythm of Mo Douglas' tune will animate at least one part of your body. A Surf theme so fresh it smells like sea salt flies above the sweetest Americana layers. Between the catchy melodies, vocalist Mariya May provides us with a joyful 'Ooooh' that may remind of the bridge in 'New Slang' by The Shins. And it is exactly that 'Ooooh' that completes this piece of sonic positivity as it is the only jubilant sound that fits the emotions which this song evokes. This is sunshine for your loud speakers.

ettie - Until I met You (MR)
(03:12, Single, Digital, AWAL, 20/05/2022)
If you have not heard of ettie yet, you still have the chance to be amongst the very early ones to discover this aspiring Pop and Rock artist from English capital London. ettie combines music from the Millenium era with the eloquence of great poets, and finally spices this hot mixture up with a very unique ingredient that can only be called ettie. The graduate of English Literature uses themes of late 90s and early 00s Pop Punk and Skate Punk to tell stories about love, about selfcare, and about exploring one's inner self. The latest single 'Until I met You' is a beautiful example for how ettie spreads her empowering message, attainable for listeners of all ages. It is thus a song that evokes real emotions and supports the listeners' quest for their own identity, and it also is a great party and pogo dance anthem.

TROLN - Says Abraham (MR)
(03:45, Single, Digital, Flinc Music, 22/04/2022)
Everybody on board, TROLN from Copenhagen, Denmark are taking us on a little ride to their album release. Our first stop is the single 'Says Abaraham'. We will then halt at the next singles 'Ghost' (May 27), and 'My Beating Heart' (August 26), until we then reach our final destination, the album "Ghost" which will be published on September 30. Keep clear of the doors, refrain from smoking, and make yourselves comfortable for this great journey through darkness and beautiful gloom.
The first ex ante single to the upcoming album is called 'Says Abraham' and it is an atmospheric and thrilling song about devotion. Like deep mantras the rhythm sets us in trance while a pitch black Blues Rock theme that could also be written by Tom Waits and Nick Cave paints psychedelic images by using the whole range of dark colours. On top, vocalist Helene Navne moves like a serpent charmer across this sonic building as she sings of devotion and selfdegradation. You can switch on every light when listening to 'Says Abraham' but this stunning song will always be darker.

Anie Valentine - Ending Things (MR)
(02:35, Single, Digital, selfrelease, 01/04/2022)
And as TROLN have made clear, being to devoted to another person and therefore forgetting one's own needs and desires, can be careful and harmful. And thus, sometimes it is necessary to realize when it is time to pull the ripcord. In the game of break-up-songs and thinking-about-a-break-up-songs there is a new big player with 'Ending Things', the debut single by Anie Valentine from Irish capital Dublin. The lyrics are loaded with frustrating experience made during several relationships, most of them are about taking the second billing to someone or something else. Anie Valentine sing about the moment when one has to stop and think, "Is it worth it?". The answer can be found in the chorus: "I'm think of ending things with you".
Music-wise, Anie Valentine are another amazing example for the vast versatility that the Grunge Revival brings us. Although, the music can clearly be linked to roots such as L7, Smashing Pumpkins, or Hole, Anie Valentine make this sound attainable to a broader audience. 'Ending Things' is emotional, atmospheric, melancholic, dynamic, and hopefully the beginning of something big.

The Same River - Weight of the World (MR)
(51:54, Album, Vinyl/CD/Cassette/Digital, Sliptrick Records, 13/05/2022)
Around two years ago, the quartet The Same River from Greek capital Athens burst into the spheres of Heavy Rock and Heavy Psych by the release of their debut EP "Live at the Blackbox" - click here for the MangoWave review. Besides working on their other bands and projects, the four musicians have used their time to refine their sound and to record this nine-track album.
"Weight of the World" is a musical processing of decadence, greed, and humankind's talent of screwing things up although they have received the capabilities to protect lifeon planet Earth. The Same River work with the oeuvre of philosophy, both ancient and modern, and elaborate where we went wrong.
These deep and dark thoughts are musicked via heavy and atmospheric soundscapes made from Stoner Rock, Heavy Psych, Alternative Rock and more. Take Phiasco and Arcadian ¥ Child as references and enjoy how The Same River fill up the whole space between those artists.

Sinnfrei - Erotik des Zerfalls (MR)
(36:53, Album, Vinyl/CD/Digital, Dackelton Records/Broken Silence, 13/05/2022)
And now for something completely different. Seven years after they have been formed, Sinnfrei (German: free from sense/point) from German city Düsseldorf have now released their first full-length album "Erotik des Zerfalls" ("eroticism of decay"). On a dozen tracks, the sextet from the Rhineland presents energetic and activating Ska Punk. The musical ingredients to this recipe are dynamic Punk Rock (partially Deutschpunk), sweet offbeat for the fast lane, and the exciting power of the wind section. Sinnfrei sing about our contemporary world in which a lot of things are broken and about to decay, but they also spread hope and courage. If you agree that segments of the road to revolution can be traveled by dancing, then this album should be part of your soundtrack.

Where's My Bible - Circle (MR)
(16:16, EP, Digital, Inverse Records, 13/05/2022)
With their latest EP release, Where's My Bible from Finland present their redefined style. Gradually abandoning the realms of Blackened Punk and highspeed Death Metal, the quintet has focused on an atmospheric mélange from Black and Death Metal with atmospheric passages and melodic leads. The four-track release "Circle" is a concept EP on which Where's My Bible dedicate their music and their thoughts to mental health issues, and to depression especially. Separated into four chapters, the band describes the spiraling way into darkness that can be evoked by mental disease. They present the full circle from escapism to the choking void, to the search for the place where the issues are spreading, finally exploring its origin. This is salutogenesis via harsh riffs and brachial breaks combined with melancholic melodies.

Exosphere - Beg towards the Sky (MR)
(05:39, Single, Digital, selfrelease, 15/05/2022)
With their last album "Nightmares" being over a year old, Exopshere from Chicago, Illinois are back with a brutal banger of a new single. In 'Beg towards the Sky', the US American quartet pulls out all the stops. While on its foundation, the single is predominantly defined by massively rolling Sludge Metal and brachially sonorous riffs, song structure and metre break up this steady movement by adding powerful elements of Prog and Math to it. The air is meanwhile filled with the psychedelic and misty features of Shoegaze while elements from Stench and Crust cannot be denied to have left their traces, too. The result is a sweeping blow, a raging song to bang your head off to, a beautiful freakshow of eclectic noise.

No Trigger - Acid Lord (MR)
(12:06, EP, CD/Digital, Red Scare, 20/05/2022)
Have you ever wondered how big of a middle finger you can creaty by using words? And why have we not attained peace and love and record stores worldwide yet? Actually finding out might be more tricky, but at least the EP "Acid Lord" by No Trigger from Worcester, Massachusetts gives us some good hints. And although the title might raise assumptions, this is not a Doom Metal or Heavy Psych release. This EP is opened by a wrecking ball of Melodic Hardcore which leads into an antifascist Skate Punk hymn, going on to dynamic Ska Punk, and two anthemic Pop or Skate Punk tunes at the end. Hereby, No Trigger do not only tease us for their upcoming longplayer "Dr. Album", they also provide a great party. Drink your drink, move your body, punch your local nazi.
