Origin: Westminster, MD, USA
Young artist Clifford Reeves from Westminster, Maryland is a chameleon, a self-expressing performer who is constantly turning the Indie scene upside down with his songs. One of his latest releases, the single 'Close to me' is a tasty tidbit to sweeten up bitter episodes with. Thus, Clifford is the artist adding the extra ingredient that makes life worth living with this song. Think of the first sweet dish after eating the bitter herbs on passover, think of a painter adding joyful little dots and sparkles to a dark and gray picture, or think of a friend who cooks your favourite meal for you when you are down. It is the realm of these or similar emotional instances that are evoked by Clifford's 'Close to me'.
Sound-wise, this uplifting anthem follows ad breaks all the rules of Independent Pop simultaneously, and that is what makes it so gorgeous and catchy. A harsh and solid synth bass rolls through the track in a Dream Pop or Post Punk manner, creating dancefloor-ready movement and a stunning colouring to the soundscape. Together with the dynamic movement, this is what makes 'Close to me' so so activating. Meanwhile, further synthie layers hover above this dynamic foundation like the purple clouds of dawn. And on top of this wholesome pairing of solid and moving parts, Clifford finalizes the artwork with his vocals. A voice so gentle and thrilling, from the on-point rap parts of the verses to the anthemic chants of the chorus, and the activating "Hey! Hey! Hey!" at the end of the bridge, everything fits perfectly here.
This is a songfor every occasion. And whatever your mood was before, it will be better afterwards.
