Album Review: Saturndust - RLC (2020)
"RLC" ist the name of Saturndust's second long player which was released digitally in 2017. On May 08, 2020 the 47-minute album will be avalailable on vinyl via Nécio Records. Saturndust is a trio from São Paulo, Brazil who dedicated themselves to the exploration of black holes and the darkest spheres of outter space. The band consists of
Felipe Dalam - Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizers,
Guilherme Cabral - Bass, and
Douglas Oliveira - Drums, Effects.
The journey Saturndust are taking us on is not the one you might expect. We are not about to view flickering caleidoscopes of colourful images as on a typical Space Rock journey. Thisis the dark side of space. "RLC" makes us discover rutted landscapes of abandoned worlds and deserted planets. The sounds makes us travel through vast galaxies of sheer emptiness and inhospitable spheres.
Saturndust play rough and heavy Drone Doom containing and experimental approach towards Psychedelic Rock and Doom Metal. Riffing and rhythm of the most brachial sort slowly impact the eardrums with the intensity of meteor strikes. Additive dynamics are given by the rustling sounds of the Synthesizers and Effects. Between the heavy impacts these electronic sounds whoosh forwards and create an exciting Drone atmosphere. Between those scaring sounds the vocals jam, hammer, growl or moan in an accusing manner towards the universe.
It is a very scary and aggrieving atmosphere that is conveyed by the five tracks on "RLC". Saturndust definitely know how to use their instruments to create tension. If you are not afraid of taking a journey exploring the darkest secrets of the remains of a galaxy, I can absolutely recommend you to get this LP. Those who don't enjoy Drone Doom that much should maybe take a listening session first before engaging into this vast picture of darkest colours.
