Brendon Moon - Fear (MR)
(04:00, Single, Digital, selfrelease, 08/04/2022)
Two years after the release of his selftitled debut album, Brendon Moon from South East Australian metropolis Sydney is back with a new single that is as emotional, atmospheric, and cinematically exciting as it can be. Heavy Alternative Rock riffs and a silken soft Shoegaze cover create a thrilling friction which makes the ideal foundation for Brendon Moon's ethereal and soothing vocals. With a warm bass in the background and an amazingsong structure, this track which deals with the global trauma of the past years, is a fantastic emotional anthem. This makes 'Fear' a thrilling and soothing hymn, not only for fans of Placebo or Muse.
The Hell Beings - Court of Appeal (MR)
(03:16, Single, Digital, selfrelease, 01/04/2022)
Joe, Sal, and Manraj from English town Brighton, also known as Noise and Grunge trio The Hell Beings are like a magical cocoon or like sponge with supernatural powers - maybe these powers extraterrestial, but that cannot be proven. The three artists incorporate sounds, moods, emotions, and plenty of other invisible material. Whenever they exhale, a fantastic and wholesome work of art is bein created. In the case of their latest single 'Court of Appeal', feisty love child of Fugazi-like Noise, Melvinesque Grunge and Hardcore Punk à la Black Flag was born. A vibrant colour palette of grey tones then paints a gorgeous image that stands for the weird times we live in - a beautifully honest zeitgeist document.
DAAY - Golden Tree (MR)
(07:26, Single, Digital, Folklore Records, 01/04/2022)
On this third and final part of their psychedelic journey, DAAY from English capital London invite us on a mesmerizing sonic expedition. The single 'Golden Tree' lets the audience explore the intangible and fascinating beauty of creation, evolution, and natural development. DAAY dive deep into the ground searching for the remains of a seed that has become a root and a stem. From their on, they travel up appreciating the beauty of every branch and twig that has grown from that original piece. The soundscape that accompanies this fantastic journey is a thrilling and deeply hypnotizing cocktail made from Psychedelic Jazz, Krautrock, harmonic chants, and trancy spheres as beautiful as nature herself.
The Parasocials - Deadzone (MR)
(03:47, Single, Digital, Tomer Krail Records, 25/02/2022)
The genre boundaries between Garage Rock and Post Punk together with 1990s-style Indie Rock are often defined by smooth transitions or unclear sets of lines. Many artists have made it their signature move hopping back and forth between these genres. Think of the atmospheric Dream Pop-Shoegaze-Post Punk sound by The Editors or the dynamic Garage-Post Punk by The Talking Heads. Now imagine these thrilling sounds combined with some honest and energetic Rhythm and Blues: that is the sound of The Parasocials, the young quartet from London, England that masterfully bends and alloys atmospheric, emotional, exciting and dynamic sounds. The result is their unique style which invites us to some intense mental cinema in their latest single 'Deadzone' which is inspired by the eponymous film by David Cronenberg. 'Deadzone' is timeless and more exciting than 96% of what you can watch in cinemas these days.
The Parasocials will also play The Quadrant in Brighton at the Alt-Escape on May 12, 2022.
Cosmopolis - Nixon-Manson (MR)
(06:23, Single, Digital, selfrelease, 25/02/2022)
With their members living in Australia, Belgium, and England, Cosmopolis is a proper international band. Most of the time remotely and sometimes while being in the same room, the trio constantly works on dystopian and ethereal soundscapes. Their fascination for the psychedelic sounds of the 1960s, as well as for the early days of Wave, and for the sonic gloom of Post Punk can all be spotted in their fourth single 'Nixon-Manson'. The songs begins with a slightly Folkish theme which reminds of Vietnam War-era Psychedelic Rock until it smoothly transcends into a Fischer Z-like offbeat Post Punk hymn that is decorated by plenty of atmospheric and intense Wave passages. Although the song may be extremely cinematic itself, the stunning music video even intensifies this piece of multidimensional art.
Mo Douglas - The Most Expensive Restaurant in Portland (MR)
(02:49, Single, Digital, Ten Dollar Recording Co., 09/04/2022)
Last year, Mo Douglas invited us to his kitchen, recommending us to "Fry The Onion Gently". Half a year after this album has been released, Mo Douglas is back with another culinary highlight. In his newest single, the artist takes us to the most expensive restaurant of his hometown Portland, Oregon. Aneasy-going instrumental made from Rhythm and Blues, and krauty Psychedelic Jazz creates a colourful vortex that digests the song's listeners. While the audience might begin to ask themselves what ingredient of the expensive food caused this hallucinatory effects, the lead guitar brings us extra sunshine with its beautiful Surf Rock theme. This is the perfect soundtrack for a picknick at the beach - mind-expanding are not necessary.
Piedra Roja - Mar en el Desierto (MR)
(46:03, Album, Vinyl/CD/Digital, Ruidoteka Records/Nooirax Producciones, 05/11/2011)
Piedra Roja (Spanish: Red Stone) have made it their mission to stop the clocks and to alter their hands' direction and speed. The band from Sevilla in South Spanish region Andalucía has released their first longplayer "Mar en el Desierto" ("Sea in the Desert") half a year ago, and the eight tracks on this album are powerful and heavy enough to heave the oceanout of its bed and then let it overflow the desert. Burning hot Psychedelic Rock à la Arenna is paired with apocalyptic Heavy Blues sounds and the unique folklorist motifs of Andalucía.
The Keeps - Retrace (MR)
(02:59, Single, Digital, TK Records, 11/03/2022)
A year ago, The Keeps from Denver, Colorado had their first appearance on MangoWave with their double A-Side 'Midnight Feel / Collide'. Their first single in the year 2022 is called 'Retrace' and it is proof that the band has stayed true to their DIY approach towards dynamic and Rock-influenced Funk. On the other hand, the new song obviously shows that the quartet from the Pacific Northwest has made some serious progress over the last year. With great confidence and ease, The Keeps provide another Indie Funk banger that tells us to keep their names in mind.
