Before we dive into the sonic tidbit that is 9 o'clock nasty's latest single 'Food on the Floor', let us appreciate the masterpiece of a cover artwork. The faces of Marco Pierre White, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, and Nigella Lawson decorate four roasted sausages (are those German bratwursts?) which happily relax between a lemon slice and red cabbage (which again looks very Austrian or German). Content and self-confident, the four cooks who have become food in this picture do not seem to be frightened at all by the four-finger claw that longs for them.
While the sausages mentioned might be four of the most famous cooks around the globe, there are three other people from England who serve something extremely tasty here: Sydd Spudd, Pete Brock, and Ted Pepper. The three musicians from Leicester may have brought us several weird and odd stories recently (click here to read more). But this story is as real as it can be - and yet it is weird, because life is weird.
This is the story of a funeral. It is the story about a fight that brokeout during the ceremony. And it is the story about food being spilled all over the floor due to that escalation. Furthermore, it is the story about this food still getting eaten. And finally, last but most certainly not least, it is the story about the deceased most likely being very happy about everything that happened there.

Accompanied by a butt-moving rhythm, an easy-going Indie Rock leads into the latest single by the trio from Leicester. Tension rises, the sound becomes thicker, and then the catchy sing-along chorus kicks in. The trio lets their audience lurch into the sweetest realms of Cockayne (or Schlaraffenland if you prefer) and thus open a floor on which you might be able to dance some time later - but first you will have to finish the food lying there.
With their Garage and Post Punk song 'Food on the Floor', 9 o'clock nasty have recorded the song that fits every party. Imagine a huge polonaise of people marching through the room chanting along to the chorus 'There's Food on the Floor, if you want it, if you want it!'. Birthday, wedding, funeral, bar mitzvah, or any other feast is suitable for this anthem.
I might have mentioned this before, but better be safe than sorry: I request music by 9 o'clock nasty to be played at my funeral.
