Signs of Tranquility - Signs of Tranquility (MR)
(38:52, Album, Digital, DI Records, 25/02/2022)
The selftitled debut album by Signs of Tranquility is an eleven-track sonic journey to a fantastic and yet very real world. Carried by the power of ethereal Symphonic Metal and deeply sensual Alternative Metal in combination with the atmospheric potential of synthesizer sounds, the quintet from the Pacific Northwest takes their audience by their souls and emotions. It is a beautful and yet lonely world that is painted by the musical paint by Signs of Tranquility. The sweetest melodies and smoothest harmonic passages are always close-by to rough and harsh metallic riffs, and thus this album is highly exciting from beginning to its ending. One might discover that the band from Denver, Colorado has been influenced by pre-Millenium Symphonic Metal bans such as Within Temptation or Evanescence, but not only by the power of their Synthwave sounds, Signs of Tranquility create their very own approach to this genre.
Rene Sagnelli - The Machine (MR)
(05:37, Single, Digital, selfrelease, 18/02/2022)
And with Rene Sagnelli's single 'The Machine' there is another piece of eclectic, intelligent, and sensual Metal music that needs to be heard. The graduate of Fermatta, Mexico City, and Musicians Institute, California is a gifted and well-practised musician who knows how to merge pathos and heavyweight power. His monster of a single 'The Machine' is a colourful combination of early-Metallica-like Thrash Metal containing intense grooves, and late-1990s emotion-soaked Alternative Metal for the lovers and the fighters simultaneously.
(12:57, EP, Digital, selfrelease, 23/04/2022)
Quintet The Lowtones from English Norwich began playing shortly before the pandemic broke out. This may be one of the key reasons why their songs often deal with isolation, solitude, rainy days, painful memories, or melancholia. Another reason might be the musicians' fascination for 1980s' Post Punk and the beginning phase of Alternative Rock. Thus, the five-track EP "Front Row Empty" is a thirteen-minute invitation for long sighs, closing one's eyes, reflecting, and enjoying the silken-soft atmosphere of these thrilling Post Punk themes. The Lowtones create the sonic allegory of the beauty of rain drops in a puddle in an industrial zone. Gosse bumps? Indeed!
(44:04, Album, CD/Digital, selfrelease, 03/03/2022)
The third longplayer by Dope Default from Greek city Thessaloniki is a broad-shouldered and self-confident beast made from Alternative Metal, Grunge, far vision, honesty, and a certain Stoner Metal taste. On six tracks, the five musicians present a violent but controlled set of blows and punches. Sonorous riffs meets cold atmosphere while brachial breaks lead into soulful harmonies.
(24:46, Album, Digital, eRecords/Whitelabrecords, 25/04/2022)
Last but not least, Jens Pauly from German city Cologne has released a beautiful collection of Drone, Ambient soundscapes, and field recordings which he gathered under the title "1989". Recorded and improvised live, this album is a deeply touching sonic journey through memories, nostalgia, foresight, self-reflection, and reverie. Jens Pauly's "1989" is deeply meditative and salutogenetic.
