It has been quite some time since the last review of a Peruvian band. Hence, I am very happy to talk about Hypernaut's debut album "Ozymandias" today - a nine-track collection of Heavy Psychedelic Rock with an honest DIY attitude and strong features of Proto Metal. Also, the album is named after a poem by one of my favourite peots Percy Bysshe Shelley.
So, fasten your seatbelts everybody and enjoy the Heavy Psych show!
The album is opened by 'Panic Attack', a track that abstains from a smooth introduction or anything like that. Hypernaut directly jump into action and go full throttle. This kind of opening an album reminds me Brazilian Hardcore Punk band Periferia S/A and their self-titled debut.
Hypernaut play a colourful mix of intense, fast and stunning rock music on "Ozymandias". Early-day Metallica meets Dozer meets Soundgarden meets King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard? The quintet shows that each of the band members has brought several influences that define this amazing melange of psychedelia, force and agility.

And yet, "Ozymandias" is far away from being a savage and uncontrolled mix of styles. Hypernaut have drawn a golden thread through the 38 minutes of their album. The first third of "Ozymandias" feels like a rocket launching off the earth and breaking through the sonic barrier. The middle part of the album is more like a hovering flight in space. This is where the impact of 90s Alternative Rock and Garage Rock is stronger than the 70s Rock themes. And finally, Hypernaut go warp speed again. The last track 'Ozymandias' has a beautiful Psychedelic Punk atmosphere that partially reminds me of Post-Cretan band Balothizer.
"Ozymandias" is an interstellar journey that combines some of the best parts of the history of Rock music. And, most importantly, it is an authochthonous and very unique release. I highly recommend this to Rock fans of all genres and ages.
