Die Scholtys are a family band from German capital Berlin. The band consists of four members of the Scholtyssek family who wrote, played, and recorded a dozen of songs together. The result is the album "Familiendemos" which features the following artists:
Christian (keyboards, guitars, vocals),
Theodor (drums, vocals),
Philine (bass, clarinet, vocals), and
Kathinka (vocals).
The album is an honest display of what life in a family is like. Hopes and dreams, joy and happiness, misunderstandings and conflicts, and family small talk define this album, and thus create twelve beautifully comprehensive stories that most families can relate with. Die Scholtys sing about conflicts between the generation ('Wer Wie Was' and 'Hey hey Papa'), they musick a poem by famous German lyricist Bertolt Brecht ('Moderne Legenden'), or they sing about love ('Wann immer ich dich seh'), and they empower gender equality ('Mädchen können Bierball spielen', German for: 'Girls can play beer ball). And the album also contains a political track called 'Nee nee nee AfD' in which they show the finger to Germany's proto-fascist party.
The music played by the Scholtyssek family band is intergenerational as the band itself. Influences of Germany's legendary Krautrock and Proto-Punk band Ton Steine Scherben can clearly be spotted as well as Beatles-like Power Pop. Furthermore, the colourful soundscapes contains numerous traces of contemporary Indie Rock and Indie Pop. It is a wholesome and gorgeous thing to listen to this album. And speaking of intergenerational, that feature applys for the audience, too. Listeners between 0 and 99 years (and beyond) can enjoy this lovely album alone or together.
