If the title of this article seems familiar, that might be due to the review of the first part of FiveSidedDice's "Confession Tapes" published in May. Click here to read what I said about the three-track EP. Less than five months after the first part, Roscoe Nefdt from Gqeberha is back with the second part. Compared to the debut, "Confession Tapes 2" has two tracks more, lasts for six minutes longer, and is even more versatile in style, mood, and honesty. As the title already tells, solo artist Roscoe Nefdt is laying his cards on the table and thus presents a transparent, self-reflected, and brutally honest release. Therefore, "Confession Tapes 2" is an EP that gives an inside to the artist's emotional reality, but also works perfectly for mental empowerment to every listener who has ever dealt with anxiety, isolation, or insecurity - and to be honest, that will most likely apply to basically everybody. But positive emotions and joyful experience are concerned, too, and hence the EP is as mercilessly honest as life itself.

Compared to its predecessor, "Confession Tapes 2" is even more soulful. The EP's second track 'The Carved Names' beautifully shows how FiveSidedDice lets Soul and R'n'B influence his music more than before. The following Emo Punk Rap anthem 'Ride with me' instead displays the opposite regarding mood, tempo, and style. And so, listening to this EP feels like going through a whole day with several ups and downs - but even during the rather melancholic passages there is that positivity-spreading, life-affirming smile that is Roscoe Nefdt's signature move.
