Doom, you say? Nah, this Ultra Doom! Fans of the musicked darkness, the sound of the terminal apocalypse, and of extravagant low-tempo brutality, the time has come! Thronehammer are back with their sophomore album "Incantation Rites", the eagerly awaited successor of 2019's "Usurper of the Oaken Throne".

Introduced by the 14-minute title track, "Incantation Rites" immediately creates stunningly atmospheric images of demonic creatures spawning on our home planet and spreading chaos, destruction and raging fire. Thronehammer inexoraby march forward at halting pace - each step is an earthshaker. With gloomy harmony and brutal force Thronehammer musick the eschatology. But there is no saviour, no escape, no mercy to be expected. This is the end of our days.

The Ultra Doom presented here is a beautiful abomination that I once described as the bastard child of Electric Wizard, Kylesa, St. Vitus and Bolt Thrower. Compared to their debut, Thronehammer are a bit more melodic on "Incantation Rites". Also, the influence of Death Metal has decreased by a certain amount. On the other hand, a deeply psychedelic and yet brachial impact has become stronger which I would locate in the realms of Stenchcore or (Neo-) Crust à la After the Bombs.

"Incantation Rites" is a beast of an album. Thronehammer's sophomore longplayer is a blood-thirsty anthem for eschaton - a masterpiece of occult apocalyptic music. Defintely another candidate for "Album of the Year".
