LA's Moon Walker were recently called this year's most underrated band, and I really hope that this will change, now that Harry and Sean have released their debut album "Truth to Power". There are at least seven reasons why Moon Walker deserve to skyrocket the Indie charts - the album's seven tracks. Seriously, in the review of their single 'Disturbed Suburbia', I have called the duo a hit machine, and I can only repeat myself. Moon Walker are one of those bands that create instant classics with every song they write - maybe comparable to Swiss Rockabilly heroes The Peacocks, but serving a different genre.
Although the Indie and Alternative Rock played by Moon Walker is very colourful, boppy, sort of psychedelic, and dynamically funky, the seven songs' content is actually of pretty serious nature. Harry and Sean play the soundtrack for the new generation finding themselves thrown onto a planet ruined by previous generations. An environment wrecked to pieces, capitalist structures dividing the people, and structures such as classism, homphobia, misogyny, racism, antisemitism, transphobia, etc. benefiting from the situation. In this world we live in, Moon Walker's debut presents two fucks combined into one message. Firstly, there is the punk-rock-like "Fuck off!", as in "we're not gonna take your shit any longer" - a call for action, and a call for change. And secondly, there is the neo-pychedelic and forward-thinking "Fuck it!", as in "we're gonna take care of this mess you left us, and we're not gonna let your negativity affect us!".
But Sean McCarthy on drums and Harry Springer on guitar and vocals play neither Punk Rock nor Psychedelic Rock (although, there are elements of both contained in the sound). Their album "Truth to Power" is a collection of seven Indie and Alternative Rock hymns soaked with colourful atmosphere, dynamic energy, fuzzy effects, and a great serving of Funk.
You like The White Stripes, The Strokes, and Art Brut? You are sick of capitalists and other oppressors asking for the third refill while the majority of the people are hungry? Then here's my recommendation: put on "Truth to Power", turn up the volume, don't forget to press the repeat-button, and make the first dancing steps towards a better future.
