Half a decade ago, Michael Roman and Michael Rainone played some sessions together. Following these sessions, songs were written and a band was formed. The current line-up of Shadow Box consists of founding members Michael Rainone (guitars, vocals) and Michael Roman (guitars, vocals, keys), as well as John Moroney (bass), and Dan Rainone (drums). The band's debut album also features guest appearance by Cody McCorry, PJ Corallo, and Kevin Grossman.
The ten-track CD "Flat Moon" features 47 minutes of dynamic and soulful rock music that is highly influenced by the 60s, 70s, and 90s. Energetic Grunge and Alternative Rock à la Alice in Chains or The Smashing Pumpkins is decorated with Wishbone Ash-like psychedelic Prog images, and is refined with soundscapes that remind of Hats Off Gentlemen It's Adequate.
The Post-Grunge sounds presented on "Flat Moon" are the sophisticated and sober heritage of the 1990s nihilism. Shadow Box take the gloomy atmosphere that defines Alternative Rock and Grunge, but instead reproducing the raging soundscapes, they merge it with intelligent and smooth song structures. The song 'Walk on by' is a perfect example for the sound of "Flat Moon", as it can be described as a Prog Rock singer and songwriter Grunge track. Imagine Markus Apitius and Ted Turner playing The Smashing Pumpkins and you will get a pretty good impression of this atmospheric and gentle Post-Grunge album.
Music from every post will stay in the MangoRotation playlist for 14 days.
