Almost exactly two years after the release of their debut album "Trail of Consequence", Kotka's Mastord are back with their sophomore work "To whom bow even the Trees". The four members of the South East Finnish band have written and recorded their parts for this album seperatedly due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, the outcome is a coherent work. In the video below you can get an impression of the recording sessions based on how drummer Toni Paanen played the drums. The other three members of Mastord are Markku Pihlaja (vocals), Pasi Hakuli (bass), and Kari Syvelä (guitars and keyboards).

"To whom bow even the Trees" is a highly artistic and atmospheric album. The arrangements show a strong tendency towards Symphonic Prog while being driven forward by the sheer energy of Heavy Metal. Mastord combine harsh and powerful Prog Metal with eclectic Post Rock moods and the colourful harmonies of 80s Heavy Metal.

The sonic journey goes from crunchy riffs motored by intelligent drumming and a jazzy bass to symphonic leads and psychedelic synthies. And on top vocalist Markku Pihlaja holds this artistic contruct together with the power of an opera singer and the power of a Prog Metal preacher. Fans of artistic metal like Godsticks, Nevermore, or In Her Embrace will most likely love this new work by the Finnish quartet.
