Québec's Boring Girls are not a girl band. Neither are they boring. Those facts are reason enough to dig a little deeper and take a look at their first EP "Hello, Hell No" which was released in late 2020.

If you're looking for "Boring Girls" on Spotify, you will find a song by Pissed Jeans that actually is the origin for the trio's name. If you're looking for the EP "Hello, Hell No" on YouTube, you will most likely be directed to videos of Nirvana's 'Smells like Teen Spirit' which might not be a direct influence of Boring Girls' sound, but the band from Montreal is nevertheless very grungy.

Boring Girls provide us with a savage and raw mix of styles. Fuzz-laden Grunge riffs are presented with a snotty Punk Rock attitude. Furthermore, the atmosphere is influenced by Noise which is emphasized by Carolina's compressed vocals. Partially, there is a certain impact of Powerviolence, especially when Harald and Carolina sing together. And after all, there is that Melvins-like element in the soundscape of "Hello, Hell No".

Boring Girls' debut is a short but amazing collection of kick-ass Grunge Punk and noisy music for the moshpit. Apparently, a second EP is already being planned. I am looking forward to that.
