Welcome to another episode of "Learning German with MangoWave". Today, we are having a release on hand that is primarily dedicated to language and its power. The EP is hence called "Sprachfetzen" which I would translate to "speech fragments" or "parole shreds". The band name schubsen means "to shove" or "to push", but actually rather belongs to the realms of motherese or caretaker speech. schubsen are from Nuremberg, the biggest town in Franconia, and a place where the power of language was proven in its most cruel way.

The most impressive phrase of the EP is uttered in the song 'Marode Silben' ('ramshackle syllables'):
"Sprache schafft Realität,
Sprache strafft Stabilität.
(Laguage creates reality, language tightens stability)".
schubsen concern the power of discourse theory and the perception of reality made by speech. Fans of Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu or Simone de Beauvoir will have a lot of fun with this EP (and so do I).
Music-wise, schubsen provide our ears with a minimalist and refreshing combination of Punk and Post Punk. Certain influences from Post Hardcore or Depropunk are present. But fortunately, my initial fear that this was another release that somehow sounds like Turbostaat got rebutted. If anything, I would compare schubsen to Kolporteure - one of the greatest intelligent Punk bands from Germany.

schubsen have a clear message: we have to talk. Let's talk about language and power. Let's use our language for good instead of excluding each other.
