Vienna's Rebell Bagatell have recently released their debut album "Delorean" via SBÄM Records. I was given the chance to interview the band. We had an interesting talk about time travel, music more.

Here is the translated version of the interview:

MW: Hi, and first of all congratulations on the release of your debut "Delorean". How are you doing, now that the album is out?

RB: We're doing excellent! We are super happy that we can now present our album to everyone. We have not released anything except for a demo since 2016. Thus, we are really excited on how our friends and fans like "Delorean".

MW: Let's stick with the album's title right away. Assuming Marty McFly and Doc Brown would stop in front of your rehearsal room, where would you go to?

RB: Most likely to a time before or after 2020. The year 2021 isn't that different so far, but the idea is very alluring. We would love to see if the future will be any better. Travelling to the past would at least give us the chance to visit some legendary concerts that we missed. That would most definitely be a good reason for building a time machine.

MW: I find, your music sounds like skate parks, sunshine and a beer at the beach. Can you be found at any of those places? And where do you prefer to play your music?

RB: Wow, thanks for the compliment! So, usually we meet at our rehearsal room where we can also have a good time in the sun and enjoy one to twelve bottles of beer. Probably, our music sounds even better when played at the beach. Thus, a concert at the shore would be awesome and we hope to do this in the future. We mostly enjoy playing gigs at clubs where we can be as close to the crowd as possible. Main point is that it's going to be loud! Hopefully, we can soon do that again.

MW: And what does your musical environment look like? What do you like about Vienna's music scene and what could be improved?

RB: The music scene in Vienna is contemporarily doing a good job in creating a strong network. Many bands and artists are trying to make the best of the situation. That has happened before the virus, too but now the Austrian scene is very much left alone. We would appreciate that arts and culture received more support from the state and officials. Clubs and bars are going through a hard episode since they cannot open for customers and they do not receive any helpful information from the government. DIY and underground arts are not seen as relevant to the system in Austria. Therefore, many people from the creative sector or people who work at events feel left alone. At least Andreas Gabalier can produce a Christmas album and gets huge promo and broadcast for his lovely voice...

MW: Do gender, sexism and feminism play a role in the Austrian Punk Rock scene? How do you evaluate the situation, and what is your personal point of view?

RB: We recognize that there is movement supporting music that is not produced by all-male acts. That is a beginning at least. Us being a five-member all-male band, we don't want to point the finger and tell people "how it's done". But sexism, transphobia and other machismo shall definitely have no place in music and its lyrics. "Für Leiwand, gegen Oasch!".

MW: What can expect from Rebell Bagatell in the future? Will there be live streams promoting "Delorean" or do you go by the motto 'Also, wart nicht auf morgen' ('don't wait for tomorrow') and immediately start working on new music?

RB: Well, first of all, we're going to slap our album in everyone's face. In the near future we will produce some music videos. Contemporarily, there isn't much else to to do. And hopefully, we can play concerts again soon. Also, we are always working on new material. Thus, you can be excited about a sophomore album.

MW: Please comlete those phrases:
Skate Punk is...
 life!
Our rehearsal room drink is... beer!
We would love to... go on tour!

MW: Thanks a lot for your time! Is there anything you want to say at the end of this interview?

RB: Have a lot of fun with our album. You can listen to it on all streaming platforms. If you want to support us, buy our CD and merch.
