The Ruhr area in the West of the Federal Republic of Germany is famous for its post-industrial charme and its vibrant culture. The region has become one of the most versatile hot spots for all sorts of artistic output in Central Europe. Being one of the largest metropolitan agglomeration areas on the continent, the "Ruhrgebiet" ans its residents are actively fighting the grey tristesse of their new reality. Like flowers that grow in cracks in the tarmak of abandoned industrial zones, the Ruhr area is growing its new post-industrial culture.

Mülheim's Volvopenta are a great example for this movement. The quartet produces a unique sound that musicks the charged ambivalence of grey dystopia and the colourful hope for rebirth. "Simulacrum" is an experimental, atmospheric and psychedelic release that sounds like melacholy, change and departure to new hope. Slow Krautrock with a tendency towards Post-Rock is being enveloped in a misty Noise and Ambient cover and dazzles like a fresh painting on an old wall. As dark and melancholic this sonic journey is, "Simulcarum" musicks resistance against tristesse. The downtempo sounds are the opposite of standstill.

A physical release of this beautiful album is now available via Krefeld's record label Tonzonen. The limited vinyl is a very personal and unique product. Each of the 200 record covers are hand-painted by the band themselves.
The album is a mesmerizing trip for lovers of Kraut-, Post-, Noise-, and Ambient Rock. I personally suggest to queue Parahelio's "Surge Evelia, Surge" in your playlist when listening to "Simulacrum".
